Best Buy should get a clue and go check out the parking lot of Micro Center in St. Louis Park, MN any day of the week, especially the weekends.

Best Buy decided to go the lousy video and tv route over the pc parts route.
Hint: videos are dead..video rental stores went out of business wasn't enough clue!

Mobile phone won't help you either...PC and PARTS is where the $ is!

First of all Circuit City is still in business. They just don't have a brick and mortar store in the United States. They are online and have stores in Canada.

As far as Best Buy is concerned. They use to be a very good electronics store. They are still a top one but there is competition growing. This isn't what is hurting Best Buy. I think unknowledgeable staff and the fact the people order their products online (bestbuy.com) is hurting the brick and mortar stores.

I don't order my parts online. I goto Micro Center a PC PARTS (MAN STORE) in St. Louis Park by passing all the Best Buys along the way.

Best Buy had aisles after aisles of pcs and parts back in the 90's. Now they have crap.

Also their prices are 5 years out of touch and so are their displayed workstations and laptops!

Once upon a time, Best Buy was actually a good place to shop (far better than Circuit City, which was populated mostly with the employees everyone's complaining about in these posts). The past few years, though, my experience has largely been as people are saying, maybe not quite as bad. Fortunately, I now live near a Fry's, so Best Buy is a non-factor.

After reading Raul Pupo's book "America's Service Meltdown: Restoring Service Excellence in the Age of the Customer," I've set some new criteria for companies I do business with. Simply put, they don't get a second chance to make a good impression where service is concerned. Every company, whether or not its staff will admit it, is in the customer service business. No customers, no business. While on the one hand I expect to get what I pay for (whether a lot or a little), there is no excuse for a lack of customer service. A company with a good track record might get a pass, but if I'm treated like dirt from the start I won't be back.

Totally agree with the "Once upon a time..."

I'd drive 20 miles just to go to a MAN store (Micro Center) than stop at Best Buy.

Best Buy is ok, until you want to return something, then they are as rude as ever, and it's like pulling teeth trying to return something at that store chain.

I have found their staff to be knowledgeable. Prices are too high and not competitive

I have been doing business with Amazon since they started up. They have only gotten better. I subscribe to their Prime plan which gives me free 2nd day air or next day air for 3.95 + free streaming on a lot of movies and TV shows. Rturns are as always hassle free. However if the return is your fault, they may charge you for return shipping.

I spend right at 15 grand a year with them. Car and truck parts, a new tank-less water heater, bedding even coffee. The local retailers in our country + the countless "middlemen" drive the local prices through the roof. Amazon is American Enterprise at it's BEST. (No Pun Intended). I have no sympathy for local merchants. When there is a 30% difference in total cost, I am buying from Amazon.

Amazon has the luxury of not having brick and mortar retail stores to support. They have essentially changed the business model for selling books, DVDs, and CDS.

But I agree with you. When the price difference is 30% or higher, it's hard to buy at a brick and mortar store just because you want to be a good Samaritan as opposed to shopping on Amazon.

Another thing, when it comes to books, Amazon and other outlets have a way better selection, than what you'll find in brick and mortar stores. The b/m stores only sell top 40 books

I gather that their own return policies have worked against them.

My issue with BB is their terrible, surly, arrogant, know nothing employees. They duck around the isle when eye contact is made. If they are engaged, say on a phone, they will try to sell you what they have, rather than what you may want.

Customer service and customer relations has gone down the tube everywhere. But yes, Best Buy is up there. I only speak English, so it's very difficult to seek help or service anywhere in America.

@hpnotoad72 , There's no money in it???? So there's money in closing 50 stores and having your customers go elsewhere cause they're sick of the way they're being treated? Many of those Best Buy stores should have never opened in the first place
