- The idea of everyone having to pay something, including the bottom 47% who pay no income taxes, sounds good, but it is inherently unfair to the working poor. This 47% only has 2% of our national wealth where the upper 53% has 98% of the wealth. To tax these poor people, whose crime is to work and earn a low hourly wage for 60-80 hour workweeks is unconscionable. As for paying "something," they already do. They pay 7.65% payroll taxes on every dollar they earn, plus local sales taxes on all their purchases--and they have to spend everything they earn just to survive. Yes, we need to overhaul the tax system, but it needs to be changed to where the rich start paying their fair share and giving back to the country that has enabled to suck up money like a financial black hole. A great start is to let the bush tax cuts expire. They are what put our nation in the financial toilet, along with bush's two unfunded wars. Respectfully, retired US Army Medical Officer.

- Best line in your article-"Everyone should pay something-even if it's a token amount..." Doesn't everyone- rich, poor and all in between benefit from, for example, our military's common defense, the interstate highway system, our national parks, the FAA, National Institutes of Health and countless other policies, benefits, laws, institutions, etc!!! How we got to the point where over 40% of the population is not contributing to the federal tax coffers is the epitome of unfairness.
