A viable solution would be term limits which would allow action in favor of conscience instead of the current trend of favors for special favors.

I do believe some "credit" should have been given to Newt Ginrich for starting this animosity. This was a major omission in the report.

Translation: when each side states they are working in the interest of the American people and nothing gets done, the true meaning is that they have folded in favor of the special interests, lobbyists and super pac elite individuals that line their pockets and keep them in office.

What don't they understand when the American people insist they want a balanced solution to the problems plaguing our country?

Term limits are needed and an end to their health and retirement benefits. It should be a two-term job and not a career if you want to take a turn at it.

Thank you Steve Kroft for yet another aggravating interview with two leaders of the worst example of government I've ever experienced. Why is it OK for them to line their pockets with a salary & endless bennies (some of which would be illegal for regular citizens) although they have chosen NOT do the job they were elected to do? I laughed when McConnell claimed to know what the American people wanted. Bull...he is clueless. That's what happens when you are blinded by your own power and an allegiance to "winning" through pandering and obstructionism. To both sides: get over yourself and start doing your job.

At least George Washington put wooden dentures in his mouth before he spoke to the public.

** AMERICA IS BROKEN **

This two party system has become corrupt and dysfunctional. With more resources and attention spent on getting reelected and to counter the other party's positions than on doing the job they signed up for, Congress and the Senate do NOT get anything done.

Why did this happen, if the rules essentially have remained unchanged since the mid 20th century? The answer is simple. Morality. The current charges sitting in political offices are less compelled to cooperate, but instead treat the political landscape like sports. They root for their team, and the other team is the enemy, a thing to beat no compromise with.

This cannot continue. We have been far too lenient with our politicians.

Steve Croft said the Congress and Senate is not broken, as the rules haven't changed. What is broken is the PEOPLE who preside in those political positions. If a majority of people are this dysfunctional, we CANNOT fix the system with those people. They are corrupt. They are dishonest. They WILL NOT CHANGE. We need to clean house. And I think the only way we can do this is to dissolve the two party system. NO parties. People will run purely on credentials and experience, not on a party agenda.

If we don't make this change, America will no longer be a first world nation. While the economic recovery empowers other industrialized nations, America will languish and fall behind. We are gridlocked by our own people. The illusion perpetuating in the average American that America is #1 must be torn down. The public must wake up and revolt against the impending erosion of this country and abandon this ridiculous political party system. It simply DOES NOT WORK any longer.

To learn the details of how we got into this mess read "It's Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With the New Politics of Extremism" by Mann or Ornstein

Wow!!!! What arrogance and indifference towards helping our country. I used to be afraid of terrorists, but now I know what to fear. Our own politicians are so out of touch with problem solving, they are dangerous. I say vote all the incumbents out and start fresh. It couldn't be worse than what we have today.

When you say our politicians need to do what's right for America - you misunderstand that there are two Americas - corporate America, and America from our fake history books, where wise and just founding fathers set up a "democracy" with "liberty and justice for all." You find out later they were all rich, white, had crazy religions, and had slaves to work the land they stole from the Indians. Corporate America just wants to make money, anywhere, anyhow, no matter who gets hurt. The moneyed interests have morphed into today's Republican Party. Everyone else, the ones who have bought the dream, who actually believe in liberty and justice for all, have morphed into the Democrats. These two forces are at natural odds with each other. You can replace elected representatives all day, but the new guys will find this basic struggle still in force.
