44 year old male....10 years ago diagnosed as pre-diabetic, HBP, 280 pounds, lots of visceral fat all the while eating a low fat diet....FF 10 years, now I eat only meat, a few green leafy veggies and drink water....Dr. says I'm now in perfect health.

Dump, not only sugar, but most of the carbs....body adapts and actually reverts back to how we evolved....with very little sugar/soluable carbs in the diet.

My current weight is 185 (at 5'11") BP is 120/75. Constant energy all day!!!

I appreciate the studies that have been done, and yes I have known for a long time that sugar can cause health issues. However, I feel the studies don't truly focus on the real problem. I feel the real issue lays in the inactivity of today's youth. As a child, I was very active, always outside playing. I ate anything I wanted and didn't have any health issues. I had yearly physicals for sports and aside from teenage acne, my health was good. The children today spend too much time sitting in front of the t.v. or game box. In my opinion this is the major cause of the obesity and other childhood health issues we are seeing so much of in our society. Get the kids off the couch and encourage them to go outside and play and exercise along with controlling their diets.

How is this news? We've known for years the dangers of sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

The sugar farmer you spoke to was just like anyone confronted with climate change..."..the science isn't clear"...yeah right.

It's a major problem, but good luck fixing it. Any attempt to tell people to eat better will be met by the Rush Limbaugh's of the world screaming that the government has no place in telling people what to eat.

And now, I'm going to have some carrots!

High-fructose corn syrup is especially harmful; all of what Sanjay says is true, and more. Heart disease is just one of many problems. Diabetes can lead to loss of limbs (Google Ron Santo), neuropathy - nerve death, literally, which makes your feet hurt but numb at the same time - diabetic neuropathy is also responsible for ED, loss of vision, kidney failure.... Seriously, people, don't feed your kids sugar, and use something like Stevia instead.

Roughly 10% of people who drink alcohol become alcoholic. I'd guess 90% of those who smoke cigarettes become addicted. My guess would be at minimal 30% of those who indulge in sugar become addicted to some degree.

Along with addiction comes craving, habituation and...sadly...denial.

Not a surprise that many people just don't want to hear it.

What about all the hidden sugar? How do you check for that? I also saw a documentary some time ago about corn syrup? Isn't that worst and almost all processed food has it.

There is nothing I can find in the study that says anything about artificial sweetners. Are they equally harmful?

Does all this information apply to fake sugars? Splenda, Truvia, etc. I always heard you body reacts the to them. So seems like it wouldn't matter.
