Comments on: What "America's Pope" thinks of gay marriage
- The Catholic church can go to Hades on an express train. Their self-righteous, paternalistic, homophobic regime has broken so many commandments over the centuries that it's no wonder God sent a huge storm the other day which swept pope, parishioners and everyone else off a stage in Spain. This 'American pope' has the gall to make light of an archaic policy prohibiting gay marriage and women as equal partners in faith? Not only do a ton of priests mess around with males from young to old, but women probably donate the bulk of the dollars at churches from coast to coast each Sunday. To claim that Jesus should have left explicit instructions to include women in ministry (2000 years ago, mind you) flies in the face of other changes this church has promulgated without verbal or written intentions from Number One over the years. Jesus never talked about burning 'witches' at the stake, nor did His Worship ever authorize invasions of peaceful nations, the slaughter of Native Americans or installation of popes for purely political reasons. Jesus never saw cars, either: how can good Catholics use a device possibly compromised by the devil? This crock from the "likable, fun-loving - quick to tell a joke" dude-in-chief smells as overbearing as the incense sticks Jesus never spoke to that Catholic churches burn all the time. Get your hands off me, Mr Dolan, and keep your ancient misreading of the Saviors' intent to yourself. We can figure things out from here on in.

- My parents remember when the catholic church had black folk sitting in the back pews.

- Hey Archbishop, gluttony is a sin. You are a creature of this world and of this world you shall remain. In heaven there is neither male nor female.

- No female priests? Come on Cardinal, if you use the logic that the catholic church is strictly tied to the gospel renditions, only fisherman would qualify to be priests.

- Father, I agree with you whole heartedly. CBS is just visiting. They have no idea what conservative means. What is surprising is: that they let you speak uninterrupted without a comment, directly or indirectly, saying you where completely unfounded.
Again, I agree with you 100%. If you want to get the catholic back that identify with you, you need to quit preaching. Counter intuitive, but true. My generation really is founded in the religion, however, we do not care if you are going to damn us to hell because we do not believe in say the churches stand on abortion.
The church needs to grow up. Just a reminder, Galileo Galileo had a few facts up on the church. Just a thought.

- He is a straight talker that says it like it is. His priority to get to show what the good things the CHurch stands for is the right approach.

- "The sixth principle of Bahá'u'lláh regards the equality of men and women. The male and female of the human kingdom are equal before God. God is no respecter of gender. Whosoever practices more faith, whosoever practices more humanitarianism is nearer to God; but between the male and female there is no innate difference because they share in common all the faculties. The world of humanity has two wings, one the male; the other the female. When both wings are reinforced with the same impulse the bird will be enabled to wing its flight heavenward to the summit of progress. Woman must be given the same opportunities as man for perfecting herself in the attainments of learning, science and arts. God has created the man and the woman equal, why should she be deprived of exercising the fullest opportunities afforded by life? Why should we ever raise the question of superiority and inferiority? In the animal kingdom the male and female enjoy suffrage and in the vegetable kingdom the plants all enjoy equal suffrage. In the human kingdom, which claims to be the realm of brotherhood and solidarity, why should we raise this question?"

- "A number of sexual problems, such as homosexuality and trans-sexuality can well have medical aspects& the best medical assistance. But it is clear from the teaching of Bahá'u'lláh that homosexuality is not a condition to which a person should be reconciled, but is a distortion of his or her nature which should be controlled and overcome. This may require a hard struggle, but so also can be the struggle of a heterosexual person to control his or her desires. The exercise of self-control&. has a beneficial effect on the progress of the soul. It should, moreover, be borne in mind that although to be, married is highly desirable, and Bahá'u'lláh has strongly recommended it, it is not the central purpose of life. & it does not mean that he or she is thereby unable to fulfill his or her life's purpose."

- The Archbishops states, "I have a strong desire to play shortstop for the Yankees. I don't have a right to because I don't have what it takes." This is false. Indeed, you have the right to try out for the team. Being denied the opportunity to try out is a discriminatory practice and is not allowed. You may not make the team because you "don't have what it takes..." but you certainly DO have the right to try out.
I find it ironic that a priest, a man who has made a life long commitment NEVER TO BE MARRIED deems himself an 'expert' on marriage to the extent he can say who does and who doesn't "have what it takes". How can anyone, other than the participants in the relationship, decide they have what it takes.
If he is saying that marriage is nothing more than a religious sacrament, fine... let it be. But then there should be no "special rights" attached to this religious sacrament. - Reply to this comment
- Poor, poor wratholics.
Just as they can not discern between fiction and non-fiction, they don't know the difference between sex and rape.
So much for their moral grounding. - Reply to this comment
