That was a whole lot of tripe, although Katie sort of pulled it out in the end. Of course the (most likely decent teachers) that couldn't put in an 80 hour workweek were fired. That is the reason for unions. People are not to be used and thrown out like garbage if they can't work like a pack mule. These people at this type of school have nothing to offer except some arbitrary school testing grades. Get it together. Privatizing certain things is a disaster!

tenure is NOT the ONLY problem. I think what the TEP school is doing is great BUT if you were to do that at system wide you would have to hire new teachers and where are THEY coming from? The public schools need to provide more teacher, professional development. Alot the underperforming schools are filled with new teachers who have been teaching less than 5 years. The factor that is most associated with student acheivement in regards to the teacher: the amount of years of teacher experience.
