Comments on: Top Gear: Zero to "60 Minutes"
- I was introduced to the original Top Gear show when I lived in the UK in the early to mid 90's. That show was a bit more serious automotive journalism. I was a fan then and a fan now.
I have also suggested they have, at least once, a segment where they have "an regular guy drive our reasonably priced car." And, of course, I volunteered to be the first regular guy to do so. Unfortunately, Jeremy has chosen to ignore my suggestions.
I am still a fan and have introduced more than a few of my friends to the enjoyment of the show. - Reply to this comment
- Let us all hope that the show format does not change nor the personnel.
What kind of interest or turnout would it generate if Top Gear came to a local airport and setup a copy of their track in England and let people run their cars or even better bring the KIA over for people to drive it. Of course the organizer would have to charge, but what a great time that would be. - Reply to this comment
- This show is by far my favorite show. My buddies and I rehash the entire show each week and laugh incessantly. I love the cars they drive and enjoy it because I autocross and do track days with my Honda S2000.

- Heck with that, I want to be a host on the US version. I've been a TG fan for years now. I've told my wife that I would love the job for the past couple years. If they want a good ol' boy redneck that happens to be a gearhead, just put a post on here and I'll send in a tape. Oh yea, and I'll work for free.

- I first encountered Top Gear on vacation in the UK in 2003 when they first tried to kill the Toyota pickup. It started as a normal car program with their Mazda RX8 road test, but then it got interesting. Indeed it is a waste of time, but it is so much fun, given that it doesn't try to be anything more then it is and an equal opportunity offender of EVERYBODY. As such, I don't know if a US version will survive as even Jay Leno didn't think Top Gear could work over here with the same format when NBC tried to pitch it for him to host. A dose of Top Gear though makes my week so much more enjoyable.

- I love both 60 minutes and top gear. I really enjoyed the episode, although, Im surprised in it's lack of detail as to some of the "male psyche" and why people love the show. An American version will ignore the subtle chemistry and focus on the "Jackass". It will likely not live up to the dry sophomoric english sense of humor Top gear currently provides. Sell the show to CBS for crying out loud...

- MY niece told me about "Top Gear" over a year ago; unfortunately, with all the OTHER shows on (many on CBS), I don't always catch it live - but I catch it as often as I can!
Clarkson, May, and Hammond are just plain NUTS; they're irreverent, abusive of each other, and totally disrespectful of ALL authority figures.
I LIKE that in a commentator, and they ARE commentators on the state of Automotive design and engineering - besides, despite all the hoopla about how they drive, I've NEVER heard them advocate speeding or reckless driving ON THE STREET (even when searching for the perfect highway in Rumania, which I don't think HAS any speed limit on that road).
And I'm an ex-cop, so I watch for that kind of stuff. - Reply to this comment
- My brother turned me onto this show at the middle of season 7 and it instantly became my favorite Tv show. I was really glad to see it get some more attention in the US.
If you enjoy Top Gear you will probably love some of James May's(my favorite presenter) solo programs like James May goes to the moon. James May's toy stories. Oz and James drink to Britain and Oz and James wine program, the actual name of the wine program escapes me at the moment. - Reply to this comment
- Unknown in America? I think your research department needs to research a bit more. I have seen every episode of the 15 series here in the outback of West Virginia (internet is a wonderful thing!) You should have also mentioned that all three presenters are authors with their books available at Amazon.
