I am glad he is sending it to India. Atleast there it will be put to good use. If he did that here, all you would hear is "is there more".. I am an American, we are to dumb to handle that kind of gift. It would be wasted on ungrateful people or a government that would take 45% of it.

It is their money to do what they want with it. However, I am surprised that when they "give back" it is not to Americans who helped them get where they are. But it is their money.

Helping the people of India is a wonderful idea. But Bill, and its probably been said before, why don't you throw a "bone" to the folks that made you rich in the first place, namely US, and make the NEXT version of Windows available for FREE. Just sayin'....,

I thought the story was excellent! Bill & Melinda are real people trying to make a better world, one life at a time. They are truely Philanthropic people. They take on underfunded programs that service the poor & powerless.
I came away with a better understanding of them as real people.

I find it sad that India is the country that makes 75% to 90% of the Rx medicine prescribed by our Doctors and these people are not getting any meds. I would like to know why they Gates feel they need to give meds to these people when Mother Thresa worked for 50 years with the poor people of India and nothing has changed. Where is the India government and why aren't they taking care of their own people? I don't want my meds, my toothpaste, my computer made in India. I want them made in America. This is why the Gates and other's of their ilk are billionaires, they outsourced the work to India. St. Louis announced today that they are opening up a major airport hub with China..other place for outsourcing with minimum amount of American's employed to off load this Indian and Chinese merchandisse. If India is so great, the Gates can move to India. This whole story makes me sick to my stomach. How much of Gates products are made in India? (when I call to report non delivery of our ST. Louis newspaper, I talk to someone in the Phillipines). America is doomed unless we start making and buying American made products. so, if your hungry, eat your foreign car..people who have bought non American products i.e. cars are to blame for the economy in the tank. 2 car plants closed in St. Louis and now China is opening up a midwest hub at Lambert Airport...what a sorry mess. The leaders of India are poor leaders and are responsible for their people's ignorance and illness. How much money does Obama send to India per year ?. The high class people of India should help their own people and the Gates are braggers and all the women and men lined up to have their picture taken with the Gates was sickening.

I don't care how rich or how much they donate. Gates is a thief profiting from an idea and development from Xerox. I guess he feels this will right the wrongs he has done. A little salvation maybe?

Ironic is it not. Bill and Melinda are spending money to develop India at the same time Bill and Microsoft are sending jobs to India at ultra low wage so that he can make more money.

I love the philanthropy that comes with screwing so many so that you can donate the excess to get your name recognized. Microsoft has been sued for anti-trust and created monopolies and gates wants to be remembered as a philanthropist giving back to the people.

You people are absolutely unbelievable! You have a couple that has managed to amass a huge fortune and now they are spending it in a way that benefits you and me on a global scale. Instead of utilizing this wealth to placate some selfish desire like buying moon rocks or some other frivolous dream that most lotto winners aspire to. They are using not only their money but their knowledge and especially their time to help correct problems in the world that have plagued us for eons, hunger, pestilence, poverty and ignorance just to name a few and in addition they are aligning other Billionaires to do the same. Then you sniveling little rats have the gall to whine about their generosity. When Wall Street and the Nations banks turn their backs on the American people, when Mega corporations electrocute our soldiers with shoddy construction or pollute and destroy our fishing industries with oil, when they lay waste to farm land from fracture mining and desecrate our National Parks for their bottom line, what do you fine, "I support our troops", flag waving, bible thumping Americans call it? Progress! I'll concede you one thing that Mr. and Mrs. Gates have underfunded, and that is educating ignorant Americans that don't understand the true history of this country. That were never taught or understood that it was ultimately America's generosity and the ideals of equality that made us a great nation. To those of you that whine about their investment in Africa and other countries, have you really forgotten that two of the main factors in creating a terrorist are ignorance and poverty? It's not that difficult if you focus your selfish little brain to figure this out. In fact go get on a computer run on Mr. Gate's operating systems and Wikipedia it.

Mr. and Mrs. Gates, I salute you and appreciate what you are doing not only for America but for humanity as well.

In a recent TED speech, Bill Gates said, in plain language, that vaccines can be used to reduce the global population and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Read the actual quote from Bill Gates (and see the video for yourself) in my story:
