- Westboro "Church" are scam artists. Most of them are lawyers, and the rest are in sociology and psychology. The sociologist/psychologists look for "weaknesses" to exploit. They target groups--local governments, cities, individuals--and push those groups into doing something that infringes on the "rights" of the "church." Then they sue, which costs them nothing if they lose because they are lawyers and work for themselves, and which reaps them enough money to live on if they win.
They started out with gay funerals, moved to military funerals, and are now going after "Anonymous." I don't have any deep love for Anonymous, but it is very clear that they are being provoked because the sociologists have tagged them as easily provoked into doing something for which they can be sued, and the lawyers have tagged them as easily sued.
Westboro "Church" is just a litigious organization that lives by provoking others--that is why they smile when they scream in your face and you get angry in return. The smile lets you know that they are getting exactly what they want. They are the schoolyard bully that provokes other children into red-faced anger, swinging wildly, and getting into trouble themselves while the bully walks off satisfied.
The best thing to do with Westboro "Church" is laugh at them. I know some good jokes--how about you? - Reply to this comment
- I'm of two minds about Westboro... part of me says ignore them completely in the hope that they will go away. The other says give them airtime so they can show people how backwards and insensitive they are. Ignoring them is probably best.
Thumbs up to Anonymous on this one. I can believe that they had nothing to do with the original letter. The on-air hack was deserved.
