My question is this..Did the yogurt users also have a good dietary habit of just plain ole eating right or did people that ate less healthy predominantly benefit from adding yogurt to their diet.
"Hyde advised people should stay away from full-fat yogurt because it contains more saturated fat, which could raise LDL (bad) cholesterol." Hogwash, but I wouldn't expect anything less coming from an RD steeped in 50 year old dogma. Also when they take out the milk fat what do they replace it with? Sugar, or even worse HFCS. When I want yogurt I eat full-fat plain (if I can find any these days) or homemade yogurt and the only thing I sometimes add is a few berries or some nuts.
That's the thing about yogurt though. I have to add fruit or honey to make it palatable, so what's the point? Eating all that sugar. Might as well eat other sources without the sugar.
Yeah but the 35 grams or so of added sugars in most yogurt sold today is going to offset any potential benefits of regular yogurt. They've turned a healthy food into junk food sold as a healthy product. I simply don't need, or want everything I eat to be like candy!
35 grams ? they weren't talking about Frosted Flakes Brand Yogurt, most have around 20, but people should eat light yogurt, at about 11 grams of sugar.
You DO need yogurt and the helpful bacteria it provides.
I have noticed that, especially lately, too many yogurt choices and most are bad especially those advertised as "diet" or "low-fat." Also some of the so called "active" ones have been heat treated for longer shelf life -- these products are actually inactive. Only the truly live products can be used for a starter when making homemade yogurt. That's how you can tell.
