I eat chocolate every day. One bar at least. Often two. Plus potato chips, french fries, and fried foods like hambuger and fried chicken.

My BMI is 18.7. I just had my cholesterol checked last month. It's 80 good and 70 bad. My blood sugar is so good the doctor said diabeties is nowhere in my future.

I rarely go out to eat. And fast food is only once in a great while. Everything I eat is at home. Doctor says eating out is what will kill you. :)

I asked my doctor about my diet. He said don't change a thing. Thin people's bodies learn to adapt and survive on what they eat. So junk food for me!!!!!

I do take a multivitamin every day. Generally two, since my diet is poor in nutruents.

I have been practicing this fo several years now and prefer the dark, semi-sweet most of all. Usually consuming about a pound a week over four days/wk. which is like 4 ounces every other day.

I do get off my lazy a$$ and hit the gym too about three days a week for 45 minutes each day.

Did Nestle fund the research? I have tried and boy have I tried to lose weight with chocolate, but every time I eat chocolate I gain ten pounds.

Of course, it's the sugar content that gets metabolized into fat in the body. Chocolate tastes like cardboard without sugar.

And sugar substitutes have been linked to cancer, so just give me real sugar in my real chocolate, in moderation.

I do not believe this report. Period. Sports Ritter dark one cube a day does lower BP I read years ago. But more than one cube did not help lower BP. Limited dark chocolate was the key. This study suggests milk choc is as useful as dark and that large amounts that clog arteries and produce fat are not a problem.

This is one example of the idiotic movement of pseudo-science that dominates our culture today.

"Findings show the composition of calories, not just the number of them, matters for determining ultimate weight."

What a bunch of garbage. Have we considered that maybe, just maybe, it might be of supreme importance to determine the total calorie intake of those in this group who eat more chocolate versus the ones that eat less? I would bet my life that those eating more chocolate in this group have a lower calorie intake overall. But that wasn't something that was even considered before declaring that its not about total calories, but the source of calories as well. Guess what--its about total calories. If you're focused on food and buy into the fact that if you don't have three square meals a day then you will become unhealthy, then that focus will lead you to a fat and chubby lifestyle. If you have passions greater than food and are able to get into something enough that you could actually miss a meal without realizing it, you are probably thinner. Weight gained or lost is calculated by a ratio of total calories consumed to total calories burned; that is a scientific fact and anything that says otherwise has huge holes in the logic.

It's not about total calories. It's about the type of food eaten and the rate of metabolism v/s absorbtion of the food. One can eat a diet with a high percentage of carbs if small amounts are eaten so the body isn't flooded with easily-absorbed sugars. The body treats drinking a liter of apple juice consumed in 5 minutes differently than spreading it out over the day. Yet it's the same number of calories.

My wife and I discovered that eating intense chocolate deserts, such as traditional mousse made with eggs and chocolate results in feeling the desire to over eat. The intense flavor of the chocolate satisfies us much sooner than eating something like cookies or chips. Plus it has fewer sugar type carbs in it, and more butter fat and protein which take longer to digest.

Chocolate just makes me fatter (and feeling better for a few hours). I chalk this up with other vices that we "wish" would help us. Seems like they said that daily wine was also "good" for you (until other studies contradicted that one). Some people also say that caffeine is good for you. I certainly congratulate you if these these things truly somehow were to help your health (in the long run).

Chocolate is used in LAXATIVES!!!!

No its not. Ex-Lax has cocoa and palm kernel oil which makes it a compound coating, not chocolate. Big difference my friend.

Even if it were chocolate, there is no laxative effect in the chocolate itself, only in the active ingredient potassium. A sugar free chocolate using sorbitol or mannitol as a sweetener can have laxative effects but only if you eat too much of it,

CHocolate, when eaten in moderation, can be beneficial but that does not mean that the more you eat, the healthier you get. You eat small amounts of it and the cocoa butter is efficiently and effectively eliminated from your system. The sugars are the real problem but the cocoa solids ( chocolate liquor and cocoa butter ), not so much.

Don't go spreading false information and old wives tales about chocolate.

@asrai6...thanks. Thats what 24 years in the chocolate industry has taught me. It really is a fantastic product and if you allow yourself to really taste it, a whole new world of flavors will open up for you. There are some dark chocolates that are truly beneficial to your health, when eaten in moderation. Chocolate made from beans with a high polyphenol level, will yield great health benefits. Only a few companies actually make a chocolate from those kinds of beans but they are out there
