Seriously??? Speak about archaic and out of touch. What is so offensive about a mother feeding her child? I mean, how many men are 'offended' when a scantily-clad woman in a bikini walks by? Yet they are offended by a mother nursing her infant in public? And really, how many nursing moms have just 'plopped it out' in front of everyone and the world to see? Seriously, don't you think her mind is on feeding her baby rather than 'flashing' anyone who is around? How many breastfeeding moms out there have been asked to leave the room when they are totally 'covered' but because a little blanket over the shoulder and a hump underneath 'tells' everyone mom is nursing? And just who are 'they' who laid these 'rules' on us - yet nobody says anything about the women who choose to dress like hos (a lot teens included). Seriously? what is more tacky?
Seriously? If you don't like watching my discreetly covered baby eating, put a blanket over YOUR head or take your meal to the restroom and bon appetit. Make sure you catch a sniff of the beautiful sound you just heard next door. What a dumb article.
This is the most asinine thing I have ever read. CBS I am extremely disappointed in this! I breastfeed my child whenever she needs it because it is her FOOD source. Is she supposed to go hungry so that 'gasp' a man, child, or any other living creature my catch a glimpse of my partially exposed breast. Whoever wrote this needs a big reality check.
I breastfed my children and, as I'm sure most moms did and still do, preferred to find a place as private as possible. The point is not to make a plitical statement but to feed the baby, who isn't interested in statements. Baby is interested, gee whiz, in milk! So let's act like grownups, all of us, and remember that the point is not that we're trying to seduce anyone here. If it isn't about feeding a baby, there is something wrong this discussion.
Welcome to the CBS Women's Health echo chamber, where minority opinions are shouted down with parroted prefab opinions. You will think what we've decided you should think.
What is wrong with this picture? You see more breasts on tv every night then when I was breast feeding. I breastfed all three of my children. One of them was allergic to every major food category, milk, wheat, gluten, citrus, soy, eggs, literally everything but breast milk. She had hives head to toe, and difficulty breathing at three months of age, when I tried to give her a second bottle of formula just to go out for the evening.I had to nurse her for a couple of years, until she outgrew her allergies. You can breast feed a baby anywhere and no one has to be the wiser. I never once bared a breast in public, yet my kids were fed in restaurants, offices, planes, you name it I fed there. The trick is putting a blanket on the shoulder you want to nurse, put baby under the blanket, pick your shirt up from the waist and no one sees a thing. When my child was older, they were not nursing frequently so we nursed exclusively at home.In the morning, then we would go do errands. We would come home, lunch and nap. Then after nap a snack. Then dinner and bedtime. So ever a child who actually cannot live without breast milk, can be nursed with no one the wiser. Breast milk is best for brain development, lowered childhood obesity and is the perfect food for human babies. My sister who worked full time nursed her babies until they were a year old. The problem is, most women have no one to help them over the rough spots and they give up. There are very few situations when a baby cannot be nursed successfully. In those cases, and in adoption go for the bottle. There is nothing to be ashamed about, upset etc. A happy mom is a happy baby, but if you can nurse, the benefits are tremendous and you save a ton of money.Good Luck to all you nursing moms.
Aaaakk! Oh please! CBS I'm disappointed in this piece... #'s 1 thru 9 in the list were ridiculous!!! Of course you can breastfeed in front of men, kids, and at your friends house...what kind of friend wouldn't let you feed your baby at their house???....
Almost all of the blurbs for the pics were written with this tone like "of course breastfeeding is recommended, but oh my heavens, should women be doing that in public?" Like we haven't been trying to assert that this is totally normal for... how long now? The only good advice was the last frame that said straight forward that it's better to breastfeed in public than in the bathroom....
I was heartened to see the poll results said 87% felt women should be able to beastfeed anywhere
I have been breastfeeding for 8 months now and am still uncomfortable breastfeeding in public. It is unfortunate I feel this way, and I wish I didn't. When I have to do it, as a last resort, I find the most private area I can. I don't know why the public, who knows breast is best, would ever be "offended" by it. It is those people that make it difficult for me, as I am already extremely shy about it, and the last thing I want to do is make anyone else uncomfortable. It is reassuring that a lot of places (the zoo, Disney World, etc.) have a private area now that you can go to breastfeed. I hope one day it will be acceptable to everyone and so normal that women won't have to be ashamed of doing the most natural thing there is, feeding her baby.
Hello people... that breast milk is there for a reason. If a woman is comfortable feeding (BREASTFEEDING) her child in public..then GO FOR IT!!
The " rest of the world " needs to grow up if they can't handle it.
I mean really people.. has the world really become so terrible where a woman can't do what God clearly intended her to do. Oh wait..of course it has.
Like someone else previously posted.. no one is forcing you to watch. There are plenty of other directions you can turn your head if it really bothers you that much.
To all of the breastfeeding mothers out there.. if your child is hungry FEED THEM..wherever, and however you can.. don't let the extreme ignorance and immaturity of others stop you from doing what is best for your child... YOU ROCK!!
Breast feeding in public is absolutely the most revolting aspect of being a mother. Formula is made for a reason! I am a mother and proud to have fed my child via bottle. No one should have to look at another womans boobs, especially other young children. Go somewhere private and shove your breasts in the babys face on your own time. How about YOU respect everyone else.
"shove your breasts in the baby's face"? are you serious? is this honestly the most intelligent thing you could come up with to say? I agree with the having respect for everyone else aspect to some degree, I think that a woman should do her best to cover up while she is nursing in public but at the same time, what an ignorant attitude to have, I'm shocked that your a mother and really wonder about how good of a mother you are. If your so apposed to doing something that everyone knows is best for the baby for whatever reason, what else do you not do for your children? Good luck with that whole parenting thing, you might want to think about putting your kids first.
This has got to be a troll. Surly you realize breasts were made for feeding an infant? Society may have turned them into sex objects, but their real use is no different than cow udders or whale teats. You don't have to look at a woman's breasts, you boob. Your head turns left and right and up and down. Use whichever direction moves your head opposite the feeding infant, and there you have it!
I hope you don't watch tv or go to the beach. You see more breasts there than a mother nursing your child. Your comments are some of the most ignorant I have ever met.I feel for your children.
