I just can't wait for the statistics to come out after this is marketed to the public to see just how many people are arrested, male and female, rape or vindisism.... I think the nay-sayers are going to have yolk on their faces. Even if it prevents ONE rape, it has been effective! I think this is a fantastic empowering tool and should be available world-wide.
Rape is an act of violence that has nothing to do with normal sexual gratification. Responding to a violent act without the capacity for lethal force is stupid. Meaning that when a violent scumbag attacks, and overpowers you, and you respond with a sticker in his weiner, well you end up with an enraged murderous violent scumbag that probably wants to kill you. I'd suggest a 7 inch shank inserted into both lungs then run.
yeah, nice thought-- not necessarily practical. At least this is a practical measure that could help protect women from some of the horrible consequences of rape-- STDs for one.
When I was a youngster in Australia the Abo girls used to sit down and shovel some sand into their intimate parts which certainly used to put the diggers off a little rape action after coming out of the pub at night..
Forget this device. All citizens should be armed to protect themselves and others. Any rapists should be hung. That is how to stop this. US citizens, don't give up your guns, you saw what happened after Katrina! The writing is on the wall.
Uh, this story is about South Africa, not the US. They don't have the same gun rights we do. Plus, a $2 rapist trap is a lot cheaper than even the most mickey-mouse .25 auto POS pistol.
I agree in principle with allowing citizens to arm themselves, but you have to consider ALL of the facts in the story here.
I don't know if rapists should be hung, but they most certainly should be castrated.
They could not be trusted with the responsibility of their own sexualities, so they should not have a sexuality at all. I imagine some would choose death over castration, anyway, but I still think it's the most obvious punishment.
(In the case of women preying on underage boys, perhaps hysterectomy should be considered, simply out of fairness).
With the article talking about how common gang rapes I'm trying to understand how this will help to deter them. It is horrible that thisd is happening but something more effective needs to be invented. What happens when these things malfunction/break and end up stuck inside the woman? A chastity belt seems much more practical.
From BBC News: "One in four South African men questioned in a survey said they had raped someone, and nearly half of them admitted more than one attack. The study, by the country's Medical Research Council, also found three out of four who admitted rape had attacked for the first time during their teens. It said practices such as gang rape were common because they were considered a form of male bonding... And it's partly rooted in our incredibly disturbed past and the way that South African men over the centuries have been socialised into forms of masculinity that are predicated on the idea of being strong and tough and the use of force to assert dominance and control over women, as well as other men... The study found that one in 10 men said they had been raped by other men." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8107039.stm Rape is an epidemic in South Africa. I applaud this doctor for at least trying to curb the violence
AS A FORMER DET.SGT., CITY OF PHILA.,PA.,USA, I CONDUCTED MANY RAPE INVESTIGATIONS I CAN HONESTLY SAY NO MAN CAN TRUELY UNDERSTAND THE PAIN AND ANGUISH A RAPE VICTIM UNDERGOES.
