Are higher-income parents the type to be influenced by what a celebrity says? Did Jenny McCarthy choose to have her son Evan regress into autism? Since it happened, she has done everything in her power to see that it doesn't happen to someone else, and to work towards Evan's eventual recovery. Jenny is for "safer vaccines," not "no vaccines," though she's often misquoted. This non-profit group, the NCQA, where DOES it get its funding? Might be interesting. We know the American Academy of Pediatrics gets a lot of funding from the pharmaceutical industries. What is Ms. O'Kane's evidence that parents are rejecting vaccines because of "misinformation?" By "misinformation" presumably she means information that does not meet with her organization's, or its' backers,' approval. Compare what the American Academy of Pediatrics tells parents with what Andrew Wakefield, Boyd Haley, Mark Blaxill and others have put together to counter "misinformation" given to parents by doctors. "Response to Dr. Ari Brown and the Immunization Action Coalition," http://www.medicalveritas.com/manWakefield.pdf Parents have been concerned about vaccination for a long, long time, 25 years in my case. This is nothing new, but the amount of vaccines children are getting today is at least three times as great, with three times the risk of harm. Why not, when there is minimal industry accountability financially?

The blanket denial that vaccine manufacturers use in defending vaccines is so transparent to anyone who knows that there is always a margin of error w/anything that is mass produced and foisted on the public...guess they've depended on most people being in the dark and kept ignorant or brainwashed that vaccines are 'safe'...If they're so 'safe', then why was over $92 million paid out in 2007 for vaccine damage? The numbers are far greater than this in that less than 10% of vaccine reactions are reported. It's not good business to have a patient become damaged or die on your watch, hence the under-reporting.

Before my kids were born, a nurse showed me an insert label and I said 'no thanks' to all the neuro-toxic and carcinogenic ingredients contained in vaccines...that was a good enough reason for me not to vaccinate my kids...common sense, logic, whatever you want to call it...it was a gut feeling that something was not right about this picture and that doctors were all about 'well-baby' visits in order to get your child into the $ystem so they would have continual office visits to garner money and influence w/the patient...Even w/a grandfather who was a well-respected medical doctor and sister-in-law as a pharma rep, I declined, amidst the pressure, as I knew that injecting a serum of formaldehyde, aluminum, thimerosol (49.6% ethyl mercury), yes, mercury is still in there and there is no such thing as a 'mercury-free' shot, squalene, msg, peanut oil, phenols, carbolic acid, neomycin, streptomycin, dead animal pus, foreign viruses, etc. into my brand new baby was senseless and would be damaging to her developing immune system. What is not talked about is the immune system and keeping oneself healthy...you all know the drill as to what to do to stay healthy...but there is no money in healthy patients who do not contribute to the drug co$ bottom line...'womb to tomb, a customer for life' is their motto per my sister-in-law, who despite peddling drugs/vaccines to doctors, does not allow her own children or herself to receive vaccines knowing how toxic they are. It's a high-paying job and she is putting them through college...

The more disenfranchised, poor, and uneducated you are, the more likely you are vulnerable and a target for drug co$ to have their way...they like 'em dumb, poor, and non-English speaking, if possible...a captive market of people who don't know their rights or that they even have any and can speak up...like cattle being herded down the chutes...they are threatened if you should, god forbid, challenge them by asking questions or saying "No, I don't think we'll be doing a general anesthetic to take out 6 stitches from his finger" as they wanted to do w/my 4-yr old son when he cut his finger...Hello!!

We're in charge people and THEY do OUR bidding...not the other way around...yeah, we're in their territory when we're in a clinic or hospital, but we still have rights, and since I'm a paying customer, I get to choose the service or treatment, thank you very much!!

PLEASE!!! Listening to celebrities?? I'm a pediatric nurse, and I listened to my doctor. Actually, I wasn't told anything, and the nurse came in with several syringes and TOLD me that my son was going to get vaccines. This happened at EVERY visit! 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 12 months, 15 months. After each appointment, he would be irritable and sick, and more and more withdrawn from us. Sure enough, he was diagnosed with ASD! He has had illness after illness, from GI to respiratory. Can't even count the times he has had antibiotics for infections!
So when I had my daughter, I decided to READ what was in each vaccine, and was SHOCKED at my lack of knowledge, and SHOCKED at what was in them!
Daughter is COMPLETELY free of vaccines. Has been sick 3 times in the first 3 years of her life, only requiring antibiotics once. She speaks better than many 5 year olds, and her understanding is incredible.
I'm DISGUSTED with what the CDC and FDA! The only reason why vaccines are on the market today is the simple fact that VACCINE MAKERS CANNOT BE SUED!!
Do your homework, and don't vaccinate your children, until you are truly educated and comfortable with what is being given to them.

Chicken pox never killed me! My husband was a 32 week premie, born in 1960 and had measles, mumps and chicken pox and he is survived!

We are damaging our future and Jenny and Jim are just trying to warn parents of the truth!

I know that my own issues with vaccination are due to the fact that we had a serious vaccine -injury with in our home. Our son, was injured by a DPT shot, back in 1994. he has serious brain injury as a result of his mandated vaccines. I am finding that almost every one on the refusal side of the fence....is a person who had a child injured ...some how by a vaccine. i cant even begin to debate with all of the celeb influence, when I think people are experiencing vaccine injury at rates we have never seen before. Perhaps it is because kids are getting 48 doses of 13 vaccines before starting school? Or Perhaps it is because they need 69 doses of 15 vaccines by the time they are through school? Either wich way.....Every vaccine is a drug...a medical procedure, that carries known risks, and more and more people are experiencing risks, and thus backing out. It has NOTHING to do with which celeb is doing what! I could care less who does what....My son was seriously brain injured by a vaccine in 1994. He needs care the rest of his life because he was injured by his mandated vaccines. Do you really think Amanda Peet, Jennifer Lopez, or Jenny MCCarthy would influence the decisions I make about vaccination my other children? No.....I am a thinking human, as most people who make these decisions....talk about people experiencing vaccine injury....and you will find your answer as to WHY...AS TO WHY...people are Hesitating on the very bloated, aggressive vaccine schedule!

Of course the NCQA finds the drop in vaccination rates disturbing... they are just a front group for vaccine makers. Click on the link and you will find that their sponsors include Eli Lilly, patent holder of thimerosal, Sanofi, which makes a dozen vaccines, Merck, maker of MMR and Gardasil etc and even Pharma itself!

Come on CBS... you can do real reporting, not just running Pharma press releases.

Blech.

I love how this report (?) says that "higher income parents" are listenning more to celebrities than using their own educated minds to research this or any topic .... while those on Medicaid, whose rates are climbing, are the wise ones. Maybe it's because they are being told they "have to" get vaccinated or forfeit the assisstance of government help. Who wants to lose their benefits?? Get real! What should our reaction be to these other high profile "celebs" like Dr. Nancy Snyderman who say: "Just get your damn shots" ... or another med doc on youtube who says: "Just ignore those vaccine inserts that talk about adverse reactions" ?? No thanks ... I'm will rely on my own instincts and ability to call a spade a spade! And until our Government finally does a bonified research study (not conducted by pharma companies!) comparing the vaccinated and the unvaccinated I will always question their motives and accuracy of data!

what a stupid question...
"Are higher income parents avoiding child vaccinations because of celebrities?"
the answer is NO. people avoid vaccinations because they have chosen to do their own research and make an informed decision, rather than just listening to the garbage "info" they get from their doctors (which is regurgitated garbage from the cdc).
i personally started questioning vaccines when they came out with the chicken pox vaccine. my question was WHY would they come out with a vaccine for such a mild childhood disease that everyone i grew up with had and survived. questioning that led me to question other vaccines too. eventually, i decided that there are no safe or effective vaccines. no one will ever convince me otherwise.
also, i wonder why they don't take vaccines off the market when there are so many documented cases of adverse reactions and death. they take other prescription drugs off the market when people have bad reactions or die from taking them...why are vaccines any different???

Don't blame you for feeling confused. We believed the government once too and that's why our kids were vaccinated normally and now are very sick. The best thing you can do is educate yourself-read and go to websites other than the CDC and the AAP and read the other side of the story. At least you can make a choice this way.

Your survey asks the wrong question. Yes my children are vaccinated, but not they are not fully vaccinated. As soon as my youngest had a reaction and regressed into Autism they all stopped recieving vaccines.

I am so confused with who to believe between two sides of this debate, I feel strongly against vaccines because i think that children gets vaccinated too much, and I surely don't trust the Agency and organizations, and the vaccine producers; I am pretty that they could be corrupted too. But what do ordinary people like me know, espescially when we rely on doctors and specialist who tells us that majority in the medical and science do not back up the theory that vaccines play a part in the cause for autism. When our family got our second child, we spaced out his vaccinations as far as we can because we wanted to be on the safe side of this argument. I wish the government would spend more money into finding out what really is the deal with this debate, so they can move on to find out if there's is anything else out there that actually causing this syndrome

The government is hand-in-glove with industry; here, the vaccine manufacturers. Don't count on it to protect you. You have to get the information on your own and protect yourself. The FDA at least prints the package inserts for the various vaccines at its website, so you can see for yourself what the ingredients are, what the serious adverse reactions were in the trials, whether the trials were adequate, (or even completed before the vaccine went on market as was not the case with Fluzone High Dose last year), and what the disclaimers are (such as, "has not been tested for effects on human fertility" but did cause infertility in rats).
