- So in the picture, he's offering his estimate of how many minutes he'll be in prison before being face raped? Why is 'one' blurred out?

- While this whole thing is deeply tragic & should've never happened, I can't help but notice that the new societal norm of displacing blame is alive & well even on this message board. I can't argue that somehow this kid has extreme emotional & psychological issues. However, each of us as individuals MUST be accountable for our own actions, regardless of the situations of which we were raised in, etc. Especially if those actions effect the lives of others. Undoubtedly, very many people are brought up in or experience the most dismal & unfair situations, but that does not make a valid excuse to infringe on others' rights. For me personally, I was raised in a poor family. My dad worked 2 jobs & my mom worked full time, as well. Neither one were college educated & they barely made ends meet. I wore my mother's hand-me-downs. I didn't own a car until I purchased one myself when I was 21. I grew up in a larger city. The junior high(as it was called then, grades 7-9) was the worst in the city. We had almost weekly evacuations due to bomb threats, on site policemen staffed, multiple daily fights with injuries, etc. Needless to say it was rough & unfortunately I was a target for bullying because I was 5'8" & looked like I was a lot older. I was hit, pushed, kicked, threatened, spit on, tripped, made fun of very brutally. I would tell & not only was nothing done by the staff, but it made it worse. So I kept my mouth shut & endured. I knew then that the only way I was going to make it was if I excelled. And that's what I did. I placed into an accelerated program at the high school b/c of my good grades & got in a year earlier. Finished that with honors & went on to college. It never crossed my mind to hurt anyone while I was being bullied. It actually inspired me to be better. To do more. I agree that bullying is definitely wrong & should be addressed & stopped. I think that someone should've listened to me & halted the abuse. However, no one did. And still I haven't committed any crimes other than minor traffic offenses, such as speeding. I think that prevention & education are imperative in order to change this trend. I also believe that each individual is ultimately responsible for the decisions that they make & for any consequences that are incurred because of these actions. It has been proven that crimes decrease dramatically when laws are enforced & punishments are stricter. Trying to determine why people commit certain crimes & hypothesizing possible preventative measures is great, but it's not immediately effective. Solutions are needed now. Crime rates are at an all time high & continue to increase in number & in severity. In my opinion, punishment is not the ultimate goal of incarceration or even in enforcing the death penalty. It's prevention of that individual from committing another heinous crime & by example, it prevents more of the same from other potential offenders. Nothing is 100%, unfortunately. But this coddling criminals & trying to empathize with then isn't working at all. Criminals are highly manipulative & they're capitalizing off of it. Stick to what is proven to work.

- Just another spoiled american kid with a gun -- A model for the NRA, I don't feel anger towards him for some reason, I feel like he is just ignorant, belligerent, and lacks empathy. I wonder if people keep taking Antidepressants if we'll see more and more of this. It's turning society into non-feeling robots.

- "T.J. Lane, Ohio high school shooter, sentenced to life in prison without parole"
When a nation does away with the death penalty we get prisons full of such garbage as this. These murderous animals live for decade after decade at society's expense for the good of nobody, not even themselves. - Reply to this comment
