- So this kid played with her High School band at the inauguration and that is worthy of her being the focus of this story? Really?? Her being shot has nothing to do with President Obama or the inauguration. Kids get shot every day in this country, some gang related, some not and THEY don't all make the news. I am sorry for the girl and her family but this story is no more important than the millions of others out there just like it.

- Project Exile, a pilot program first implemented in Richmond, Virginia, which prosecuted serious local gun crimes committed by felons under federal law, putting repeat offenders in federal prisons far away from their communities. This get-tough approach, which inspired President Bush's national initiative Project Safe Neighborhoods, ended up cutting the "gun carry" rate in half and reducing the murder rate in Richmond by more than 60%. The five-year mandatory sentence for committing a crime with an illegal gun changed criminal behavior. Similar initiatives have been implemented in cities throughout the country, but the coordination has been spotty and the Obama administration has failed to follow through on the model or add innovations to it.

- Chicago setting the low standard once again; careful, Philly and Detroit might get jealous and try to catch-up. Of course, local politicians are going to blame guns, rather than the psychotic drug-addled gang members who carry and use them. Do something about violent felons and the gang problem, and Chicago will be suprised to see that gun deaths will decrease. The Chicago Political Machine needs to use a little common sense!
