Just one more example of why, especially on the issue of guns, America is seen more and more as one big sick joke.

The mother should just file a multi-billion dollar law suit against the school system, principal AND that adult that illegally searched the child's backpack. (ps - file them all separately so they all have to get lawyers)

Let the system figure it out and make them all spend all their money defending themselves.

Lawyers are expensive and the way to deal with he school system like this is to spend all their money on lawyers. It's easy to do and very effective.

Use the f-d up system against them. It does work and will drive them crazy.

#1 the kid wasn't on school property so they have no "jurisdiction" and #2 the parent who searched my 5 year olds back pack would have hell to pay, she should have contacted the school or the girls parents #3 kids play with guns that shoot bubbles and nerf guns and water guns #4 I would have the principal in front of the school board, it is against policy in most schools to "integrate" a child that young without a parent...the kids will say whatever to please the adult #5 SHE DID NOT THREATEN HARM TO ANOTHER CHILD!!! every adult involved needs to grow the hell up!

A psych eval? For a "terroristic threat" involving a bubble gun????? REALLY, Mt. Carmel???????????

Once again, "zero tolerance" indicates exactly ZERO sense!

What is this? the joke of the century. A 5 year old probably don't even know what she does. Some people are totally out of line for doing this to this little kid and should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, searched by an adult (bad enough) and questioned by admin without parental involvement. This used to be forbidden.

Parents used to be called in - now they aren't, but still bear the brunt of the outcome (i.e., don't come back without a psychiatric eval report)? And from this, they can't get the child transferred.

Ten days and a "terroristic threat" label. What do they dole out for REAL issues?

BAN Hello Kitty Bubble Guns now before it's too late!

A psychiatric evaluation? Because she wanted to share her toy?

May God have mercy on these morons.

This is about what one would expect these days. Common sense has been tossed out the window in favor of over reaction and paranoia. I don't really think the person who searched the backpack was out of line. Let's face it, a kid could and has brought weapons to school that they've found lying around the house. However, once it was shown there was no threat, the powers to be could have simply asked the girl what she meant and that would have been the end of it. Sadly, what the official said is true - if there really had been a threat and nothing was done, somebody would have sued. Look at the attorney who filed the lawsuit right after Sandy Hook, because a child heard the incident over an intercom. On the other hand, some common sense and a couple of simple questions would have put this thing down and everyone could have gone on with their day.

I have never heard of anything so stupid. The "adult" who searched her backpack should be charged with harassing the child. The parents should sue on the grounds that the school administrators are too incompetent to hold their positions.

Good grief! The school officials that ordered a psychiatric evaluation should also under go a psychiatric evaluation for thier RIDICULOUS response. The child is 5 yrs old, I'm sure she doesn't even know what a "terrorist threat" is.
