I think 99 yr's is a little harsh. She deserved 10-20. The child did not die, the child (to the best of my knowledge?) has no resulting disabilities due the the abuse. Don't get me wrong, this scumbag is a total POS. I guess after The Casey Anthoney trial I am a bit jaded. I believe if Ms. Escalona was a white suburban mom, with a high powered legal defense team, we would be talking about lots of probation and mental health counselling. Am I wrong?

Not that I favor leniency in this case, but punishment will not solve this problem. There will be another case tomorrow, and the next day, and next week, and next month. All the hand-wringing and cries for wicked justice won't do any good. The only real justice would find a solution to this problem, and I think it starts at the top. It won't happen as long as we have leaders insisting on turning America into an aggressor-state. It won't happen as long as we have leaders who first worry about their personal career dynamics and power base. It might start happening when leaders start showing themselves as morally responsible and work together as adults in fulfilling government duties. Both political parties get an F in my book.

So sad. Poor baby girl! That woman should never be allowed to be within a mile at least from any child!! Some people should just not be allowed to reproduce!! What a piece of trash she is!!!!

"Police records show Escalona's other children told authorities ..." How many "other children" did she have already and were they mistreated too?

I agree with all the other comments so far. This putrid loser is not fit for motherhood, and we should string her up for beating up a defenseless toddler. It is sad to me though when I think about the children who are raped or molested. There is no justice like this for them. Most of those offenders get a slap on the wrist at best the first time they are actually caught. As horrible as it is for this child, having to deal with a psycho mom and the issues stemming from this incident, physical wounds heal easier than emotional ones, and surely one day she will find solace.

99 years for aggravated assault? That's wildly excessive, have fun paying for that incarceration Texas!

No wonder our prisons are full, this should have been 6 mths followed by 5 years probation. Who's the jerk water judge that thought this up?
