When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away... Don't ya just love the liberal media, they wanted this elderly gentlemen to "wait" even after the intruder kicked his basement door down to enter the upper parts of the house. Think about that. If an intruder would kick your door down, does anyone seriously think the elderly gentleman would have been wise in waiting for the cops? Maybe trying to discuss the matter with the intruders? Oh yeah, there's a good idea, let's try to reason with a guy who has just violently kicked your door down to get inside. Yes, reason will work in a case like this, why, I'll bet the intruder would stop and sip tea with the owner while they waited for the cops. HaHaHa HaHaHa HaHaHa

"newster90210",you might want to check up on the Dems. Unless they're up to more political lies, the O-ministration not long ago gave the nod to the State Dept to agree to any "arma control" treaty brought before the UN by any member nation. Quite a few have their own laws that result in "guns" being in the hands of gov't folks (L/E and military)and, inevitably, criminals. Law-abiding civilians are just SOL. In this country, we pass and repeal laws as needed. Once a treaty is agreed to, it becomes "law", and no federal, State, County, or Municipal law, rule, or regulation can be in non-conformance. In that scenario, good citizens will be nothing short of lambs led to slaughter (unless one is good with a knife in a gunfight!). Consider it a forewarning, get involved in your country and see what's going on under your nose before you sign off or vote on anything.
As for the gent with the G.Shep's in the livingroom, I'd suggest taking him at his word. Of course, you could always choose to learn the truth firsthand, and pay a late night unannounced visit. That would take about the same mentality as a person staring down the muzzle of a "1911" after being warned to stop, but keeps coming because he/she "doesn't believe the gun is loaded". Might see a flash of light, but probably never hear the "bark" or feel the "bite", too late to learn.

Surprised you had to ask, but obviously his "condition" is simply called SURVIVAL in the hostile world we live in. It's something every vet learns before leaving, if he didn't already have it on arrival at, boot camp. It's a necessary "tool" that increases your chance of living thru a "combat situation", be it at home or abroad. Your comment tells me you have been sheltered from the above experiences in life. Count your Blessings, but you may want to prepare yourself for the day when you aren't so lucky. As you should see from Mr. Earl's story, it can happen at any time.

Guess Granps got tired of living in fear of being robbed AGAIN or killed...and these men were obviously preying on someone they believed to be old and weak...Mr. Jones had every right to defend himself and maybe others will think twice before breaking in on a little old person!

I love all the forgiveness, turn the other cheek Christians who take pleasure in another persons death. Healthy response is sad understanding, not pleasure.

My father, now deceased, was a WWII Marine. He always kept three shotguns and two pistols in the house for protection. My father gave me one of his shotguns for personal protection. Now that he is deseased, all of his guns belong to me. Twice, in the middle of the night, I loaded a shotgun when our alarm went off and while we waited about a half hour for the police to show-up. Imagine what might have happened to this older man if he was unarmed.
