- "If vigilante justice becomes the norm, will visitors feel comfortable coming to our state?," she asked."
The point is not about "vigilante justice", as Mr. Martin had done nothing deserving of being subjected to a life-ending act of ersatz "justice", vigilante or otherwise.
Florida Rep. Geraldine Thompson, who said the above-quoted material, might also consider a speeding ticket given to a paraplegic on their bed an application of "traffic laws"? - Reply to this comment
- Trayvon Martin was put to death for jumping a fence. This should of went befor a judge to make the decesion of what charge or if this law was correct for this Death. guess i will call 911 and then chase the first black male i find climbing a fence and kill him becouse i don't want him to get away with it. Self defence baby.

- Once again CBS gets it wrong:
"meet force with force" almost anywhere, including the street or a bar.
Since it is a felony to carry a gun into a bar, concealed carry permit or not, your report is simply wrong. - Reply to this comment
- We will give the racism cry a rest, when racism becomes a crime against humanity. We all know that if it were Trayvon who did the shooting, he would be in JAIL, pending charges while the investigation was on going. Who gives anyone the right to gun down another human being just for walking on the street. My God, isn't that what our mixed up country was founded on? Freedom? What time did the incident happen? Doesn't matter! How far away from the area did Trayvon live? Doesn't matter. He was walking down the street with a bag of Skittles (Oh I am so afraid of Skittles) Isn't it hot this time of year in Orlando for wearing a hoodie? Doesn't matter, he could wear what he wants. That's like saying a rape victim deserved what she got for wearing shorts in the winter. Come on people, lets call a duck a duck and a snake a snake. This guy convicted people for WWB. (Walking While Black) 46 Calls reporting Black males walking through the neighborhood. I think that says it all.

- I am truly disgusted at the lack of empathy for Trayvon and his family. I am appalled at the journalists who have gone out of their way to distort the facts, and the police who have simply tried to cover them up. I would have never imagined that thousands of white people who advocate animal rights laws could be so callous toward an innocent human life that was so wrongly taken.
HOW DARE you???? SHAME ON you!!!
Trayvon was murdered in cold blood and you heartless, heartless, heartless people are defending the SOB who did this. - Reply to this comment
- Zimmerman should NOT be charged based on the current evidence and eye/ear witness testimony. Anyone who takes the time to look past the media spin on this will see that...it is exactly why he has not been arrested.
The Martin parents don't want justice, they just want Zimmerman and they will take any **** poor reason to get at him.
Thankfully we don't live in a country where enough signatures at 'change.org' overturns "innocent until proven guilty".
Thankfully the mindless lynch mob's of the media and internet are not allowed to define the rule of law
One of two things happened after Zimmerman's call to 911 reporting Martin. The call records Martin walking toward Zimmerman then Martin running to the other entrance of the complex.
Either Zimmerman followed him against dispatch instruction (not a crime) and asked him why he was there (a fair question) or Martin attacked him after flanking him by coming around the complex. Martin was fast enough to do that given he is 6'3 and 140 football player. Zimmerman is slow as hell at 5'2 and 250lb.
Funny how the media only mentions weight and not height? Just more spin/deception and most people just mindlessly swallow it whole. Martin literally towered over Zimmerman
However, Lets assume the recording by the Martin girlfriend is not fake (who records cell phone calls pre-emptivley, Really?)
Anyway, assuming the call is legit. Then Zimmerman merely approached the suspicious Martin and Martin first asks Zimmerman, "why are you following me?" Zimmerman responds with another and very fair and reasonable question "What are you doing here?" Then there is a scuffle
Neighbors reported two guys wrestling/struggling/scuffling.
It is most probable that when Zimmerman asked Martin what he was doing there, Martin's fight/flight kicked in and he chose to fight...cutting off the call
Eventually, Martin the 6'3 140lb football player (tall, fast, and lean) got the upperhand on the 5'2 250lb (short, slow, and overweight) Zimmerman. So much so that he is actually on top of Zimmerman on the ground beating the crap out of his face (he broke his nose) and slammed Zimmerman's head into the concrete causing it to bleed.
Zimmerman cries for help, as a result of this fight domination by Martin, went unanswered and as a last resort he shot Martin to save his own life. If you have never had someone on top of you beating your face and banging your head into concrete then you don't know how deadly that can be.
The fact is someone can ask you "What are you doing here" and you DO NOT have the right to assault them. If you do, and they have a gun, and they have no other choice but to shoot you to stop the assault, they will.
Its self defense. Walking up to someone and asking someone what they are doing is not provocation. Think people!
More food for thought. Why is the Martin family surreptitiously releasing no recent photos of Martin?
If Martin has really merely gone to the store to get candy and tea and had walked straight back to his Father's girlfriends apartment, none of this would have happened. No, we was wandering around the complex looking at houses, probably using an earpiece on the cell phone under the hoodie so noone can see he is on the phone. Yeah that's suspicious in a neighborhood where there has been recent burglaries.
If Martin had not responded to a fair and reasonable question with illegal assault and battery, then he would not be dead today. - Reply to this comment
- Why is everyone hyperventilating about the "stand your ground" law? It has nothing to do with this issue. Zimmerman's behavior is not consistent with the application of the law, and he isn't using it as a defense anyway. For the god's sake, the man hasn't even been arrested or charged.

- The man was a neighborhood watch person his job was to follow people he believed might be suspicious...nothing illegal about it. The fact that he had a concealed weapons permit by conincidence was also not illegal, nor was it his intent to "chase someone down with his gun" as Peaden is insinuating. He was protecting private property in his neighborhood per neighborhood watch rules, including the right to follow someone he felt was suspicious. Why wouldn't Trayvon have simply said "Hey I live at (his address) and I am walking home from the store"??? Further what was he doing out that late at night. If he was truly just walking home from the store, there will be security video from the store we need to see. Further there were many sponsors of the stand your ground law, singling out one of them because he agrees with liberal press does not mean he is right. Lets see the cell phone carrier records to verify the phone calls Trayvon friends say they got....just as fair as it seems to scrutinize Mr. Zimmerman's story so too is it just as fair to analyze the story of Mr. Martin and his friends.

- On the face of it, SYG laws don't sound like a bad idea. However, if the state of FL can not tell the difference between a justified killing and this, then they had better get ready of a blood bath. IF this person is not charged for this crime, they might as well pass a new law saying you can shoot and kill someone simply because you don't like them, their looks or color. Generally speaking most states allow one to meet force with the exact level of force. Meaning, that firearms are not appropriate measure to counteract fists, or tin cans , or a bag of candy. IN the end, it does not matter what Florida does. Any civilized person would stay clear of the place in any case. That said, I am not opposed to more and more republicans moving to Florida and buying some beach front property. With everyone expecting the lowlands of florda to be underwater in about 25 years the land should now be pretty cheap, they should make it big when the water does not come.......

- Zimmerman was in no danger, Martin was not committing a crime, and the shooting was not justified. Charge Zimmerman with second degree murder.
I do believe there is a large element of racism in this, but I also think that Zimmerman was all caught up in playing neighborhood defender and might have shot a white or Latino, too, if they fit his skewed "profile."
What a tragedy. Condolences to Martin's family. - Reply to this comment
