The lack of even basic English and grammer in some these replies is astonishing.
Are we not the stupidest country in the Western world ?
Just sayin'..

This article and others seem to ignore two basic facts: (1) Martin clearly attacked Zimmerman - the cops arrived 60 seconds after Martin was shot and found Zimmerman with a bloody nose and a bleeding wound on the back of his head (2) In Florida, there is no legal duty to retreat if attacked. You have a legal right to stand your ground, and use deadly force if necessary. I, for one, certainly hope that the Seminole County, Florida legal authorities stand their ground and do not give into this attempt by the black community and liberal media to lynch a Spanish guy for shooting a thug in self defence.

I have to agree with this statement.

Zimmerman should be charged with manslaughter. He misjudged the situation. His own lack of good judgement caused the tragic mess. Just because Zimmerman made a mistake, does not mean that he should not be charged with manslaughter. What next-- Grammah digs into her purse at the pharmacy, gets shot in the head by the pharmacist because he thought she was going to hold him up for Oxycontin?

Mr. Zimmerman shot a younger unarmed man not in his home and claimed self-defense and his claim did not provide the Sanford PD with probable cause for arrest under current Florida law.

My personal reaction is shock and anger toward Mr. Zimmerman. I do not advocate talk of vigilante justice. Our civil society requires constant support from the people to maintain safe and equitable laws. This case requires further District Attorney study and prosecution. If Mr. Zimmerman is found innocent based on the current state law than that law needs to be changed.

The life of Trayvon should be honored by the grassroots efforts to build a more just and equitable society.

Please, no jail for Zimmerman. Can someone post his address? I'd like to test this Florida "No Back Down Law".

Very Disappointed another strike against law-abiding citizens carrying there right to carry concealed weapons. Mr Zimmerman seemed like he was looking for trouble he could of ask the kid are you lost anything or just waited for the police to show up. He was told not to pursue but he did ending up with a young gentle man dead because of lack of training education and idiocy. The last thing you want to do as a law-abiding citizens carrying a concealed weapon is to shot or kill someone yes the Florida law says if your life is in danger you have the right to protect your self by any means necessary in sort form but to pursue someone like that, Mr Zimmerman took the law into his own hand and killed that Young Man Trayvon Martin COLD BLOODED. I cant believe he hasnt been Arrested yet hearing the Tapes and reading other statements he is guilty.I hope he gets the death sentence.I know that doesnt bring Trayvon Martin back . God Bless his family and .................SIGN THE PETITION ..........

What kind of state would allow a citizen, who was instructed by the police to stand down, to shoot and kill a teenager of color who was only carrying a soda and candy? What kind of state would allow such an individual to walk free without consequence?

"From my narrower perch, where I watched Nixon's "Southern strategy" successfully evolve in his 1968 campaign, it seemed that the roots of our political dysfunction trace back to a shift in southern conservative congressional representation from Democratic to Republican control following the Civil Rights Act of 1964."
Alan Greenspan "The Age of Turbulence" pg246

Who makes the gun laws in the great sunshine state of Florida?
