i agree with the one saying it is the new way the cops are trained..there are diseases out there now and they are trained when a person has a sharp, object to do what needs to be done without getting jabbed by the object.if she was gentler with her she could have gotten jabbed and maybe contacted a disease..

the old lady was trying to slice the officer even after the officer performed the takedown. the policewoman didn't need a bunch of black racists trying to interfere during the event

Who is supposed to be looking out for this elderly woman?
They are the one who should be slammed to the ground.

Inadequately trained officers who didn't take the time to recognize that they were dealing with a elderly lady who probably had no idea she even had a knife in her hand.

For those of you who think its okay to knock an 80 year old person on the ground? We can only hope someone knocks you down in similar fashion if and when you reach that age.

If this lady held a knife to you...

This lady wasn't holding a knife to anyone. She was walking around with her cane in one hand and the knife in the other. Her hand was down by her side. It was not up in the air threatening anyone. This cop could have come up behind her and grabbed her arm if she wanted to. She most certainly didn't have to slam her head into the ground. Seeing that poor women on the ground with her head bleeding made me sick. The cops are getting way out of control.

I can't count how many times when there is someone who is waving a knife around, that the cop always shoots them dead. They always go to an extreme. It isn't a gun that they are carrying, so why do they have to shoot them dead? Why can't they shoot them in the leg or arm? That would be more than enough to stop them.

That cop needs her head slammed into the ground. That old women may have been carrying a steak knife, but she was in no way threatening anyone with it. There was absolutely no need to slam her like that.

All,
The police did what they were trained to do. Age, color, sex nor religion matters. It is unfortunate that this has happened! If this was your grandmother you see it one way, If this lady held a knife to you, or worse to a stabbed a young child, you would see it differently. (Pulling up to a crime seen you don't know all the facts) (You are there to protect everyone) Pulling the race card is an example of personal ignorance. Why don't you go loot local businesses next???? It is totally using color to gain for personal benefit and makes no logical sense! Never has!
This lady is lucky to be alive! She should consider it her winning lottery ticket! You don't bring a knife to a gun fight and you don't threaten a Law Enforcement Officer, (LEO) or anyone, with a knife. Legally (State laws varying) Could the police not have "tazzed" her? Escalation of force to protect the public or LEO would seem so.
I can't imagine this lady being "tazzed" or worse shot. But I can't imagine anyone walking up to her and getting stabbed to death either.
The police took this matter and down graded their force to deal with it They should be commended for this.
They could of tazzed or even shot this lady.
I hope they can see eye to eye one day. Hopefully this lady was not suffering from dementia and be thankful to be alive.
And I hope the all can understand this.

I am a former Vietnam Vet. My mother died of Alzheimer's and dementia at the age of 81. There were numerous times when she thought I was a stranger who had broken into her house and she grabbed a butcher knife and came at me. I can take a knife away from "anybody", it takes a little extra effort to take a knife away from a person without "harming them". I did it every time without harming my mother and if the officer had been properly trained she could have done the same. What are they teaching at the Academy nowadays?

I don't care what color you are, you come at me with a steak knife your goin down too. Granted they didn't have to slam her so hard but if you watch the video they tried to talk to her for a minute about why she had the knife. They could have done it a different way but all you jerks out there talking about the race card need to get a life and grow up. Like i've said before, if you are that bored, get a job! And grow up! You know cops don't get paid very much so they aren't doing it for the money. Most just want to help people.
