- Only the dope uses dope ! I just laugh at those that say pot doesn't hurt you, I can recognize them (pot smokers) after the first or second sentence they speak, or by their facial features (esp.eyes) after just a couple of weeks of use. Even more hilarious is the lines used by pot smokers (or drug users) to either deny it or trying to explain the why its harmless. It most always comes down to how many people they know who have used drugs for years without harm or effects. If only they could see themselves with a sane mind.

- It's very simple - legalize all drugs. People should be free to do what they want with THEIR bodies as they please. The effect of legalizing everything and regulating distribution raises tax revenue, eliminates enforcement, drops the prices, reduces crime, removes massive amounts of funding for mob/cartel/terrorist activities, etc. And for those who become addicts (as does happen even with alcohol) should be treated rather than jailed. This is all so simple, and why we still debate this just indicates how irrational civilization still is - especially in the hands of moralistic slime as politicians and religious leaders.

- Ron Brooks, president of the National Narcotics Officers' Associations' Coalition, said...
will it be worth the suffering, the loss of opportunities, the chronic illness or death that would occur?"
As opposed to the thousands of deaths due to drug related violence and gang activity and billions spent to combat it by every federal and state agency known to man, and don't forget prison overcrowding and the $30K + per year it costs to feed and house them.
the only loss of opportunety I foresee is the loss of jobs directly related to the war on drugs.
Now as far as the gateway drug, that is just more BS propaganda by the establisdhment (and Mr Hurst from the early 200th century), cigerettes and alcohol are the real gateway drugs, this is the stuff that 99% of every druggy started with before moving to pot and harder stuff. ...of course now they get their drugs from mom & pop's medicine cabinet! - Reply to this comment
- Everyone I know smokes weed. Teachers, office workers, bosses, and even doctors and nurses. Unlike some people who used to miss work because they would drink excessively and call in the next day, I've never seen a responsible person that smoked and did the same. A lazy person on weed is lazy not because of the weed, but because they're just lazy and irresponsible. I used to believe all of the myths about weed, and after smoking it I found that it was a life saver when I got nauseated, when I was on my period, and helps me relax in times of stress. I never missed a day of work, was never late, and never smoked before work. I do know people who are high all day, every day, never had a car accident in their lives, never did anything idiotic -- except after drinking too much. I also noticed that a half Native American man I knew could only be calm when he smoked. He was a violent person by nature, and when he drank he would beat his wife and attack strangers... destroyed a bar once. And if you're all worrying about the smoke, then a vaporizer does the trick. I used to smoke occasionally for the last year of College and it really helped keep me focused and calm. It also really helps me focus when I want to exercise. I can do twice as many sit-ups high than I can normally, which was great because my last job was too sedentary and didn't offer much in terms of exercise. Also, it is great when you're too sick to eat. You can actually ignore nausea and stop vomiting and enjoy a normal meal. Not only is tobacco useless, but it has been proven to kill. My grandfather died of mouth and throat cancer because he smoked so much, and he was only 50. I have noticed that a lot of famous people that smoke weed, Bill Murray, Jon Stuart, Snoop Dog, Cheech and Chong :) and many others are actually decent people and haven't been known to have crashed their cars under the influence of Cocaine, or beating their wives, or shaving their heads bald and having their children taken away from them like certain other celebrities. Smoking doesn't make you a criminal -- a great number of those who smoke it, and smoke it a lot, are your teachers, your bus drivers, your coworkers, your lawyers, and yes, even your fire fighters and policemen. Just because I'd rather smoke a joint than drink a beer it doesn't mean I'm going to go kill someone. I'm a model employee, I have a degree, I have never been arrested for anything ever, don't have any traffic tickets, never got into an accident, and nobody outside my home knows I smoke it (except those who smoke themselves) and would never suspect it. Instead of hanging out with your friends, getting drunk, breaking stuff, puking, and probably waking up next to Coyote Ugly, you should try spending a nice weekend with those friends, sitting in the living room, snacking on some veggies, watching some movies, playing some video games, board games or even some D&D while passing the bong around. Drunk people are obnoxious and violent, while stoned people are calm, happy, relaxed, and stay friends a lot longer. Stoners aren't bums, they aren't lazy, fat, or stupid. Those who fit that description would be that way whether or not they smoked weed. Oh, and it does wonders for my asthma. Hey, even my mother, who knows nothing about weed, was actually interested in my experiences with it, and she would have killed me if it had been a cigarette!

- The gateway thoery is flawed. The only reason it's a "gateway" is because of drug testing. I can show up on test for over a month compared to other drugs that's out of your system in hours. I knew a lot of people who worked for a local government entity who went to cocane when they started drug testing. Another problem is you have to go to a drug dealer to get it who will sell anything to anybody, where if it was legal and regulated they would not therefore keeping more of it out of the hands of kids. As far as the "dopers being everywhere", they are already. If someone is intoxicated in public and causing problems or driving bad, there are laws against that. Most adult pot smokers don't go out and cause problems. They sit at home watching tv and eating oreo's and funyuns.

- "if they believe we really will make all that revenue, and even if we did, will it be worth the suffering, the loss of opportunities, the chronic illness or death that would occur?"
What a joke. Cannabis helps people with a multitude of illnesses and they still try to use the old model saying its bad for your health when the oposite is true. Everywhere cigarette taxes have gone up, smoking has gone down. The same will happen with cannabis, as long as they don't start off with a high tax. AZ, who used their tobacco tax to fund childrens health care is broke because less people are smoking.
The real issue is putting people in jail for it. Most are good people who would never break any other law. You can't even get food stamps if you were ever arrested for weed but can if you murdered or raped. If it is illegal for moral reasons then we need to rethink our morality because which is immoral, using it in the first place or ruining someones life because of prohibition, putting people in private jails for profit, preventing people from getting a job or help?
Legalize it already. - Reply to this comment
