- I received a phone call in which I heard my Chinese wife trying to explain in her very broken English what was going on when a man took the phone from her and told me I better get there now.
My newly arrived Chinese wife with our 2 year old son could only say "no trouble" "no trouble" which means "I want no trouble leave me alone"
She didn't have the language aptitude to explain the situation and the guy that took the phone from her wouldn't go into detail but rather ordered me to come immediately. All he would say is that they are in front of Vons.
I started to panic as I rushed to get appropriate clothes while saying
"what?"
"what?"
"What is going on?"
Vons is only a quarter mile or so from my house but a real hassle to get to because of all the traffic dividers and as I was driving up towards Vons, I can hear the police sirens which caused me to panic even more. As I finally reached the area I could see police cars surrounding my wife and son at the bus stop in which then I stopped in the middle of traffic and started running to the area.
( at this point, until I saw my son, I was assuming I took her communication out of context and started to think the worse - my son had been killed by a car - not thinking rationally with all the variables)
One of the policemen kindly gestured for me to get my car out of the middle of the blvd. with a smile on his face suggesting to me to relax.
As I was driving around the dividers and into the parking lot I could see a dozen or so spectators with their expressions which made my intuition start to realize what this was really about especially knowing how my wife and other Mothers around the world handle their children compared to well-t- do socially correct Southern Californians.
I slowly strolled over to the scene smiling at the spectators with complete confidence of what this was all about showing body language of no concern and sort of laughing at the bunch.
I perfectly interpreted the body language of the 4 or 5 Sheriffs and just played along with them as our main concern was not to frighten my son with all this drama as I was glancing over my shoulder at the crowd holding their Starbucks latte's proudly standing there as some sort of heroes of the day.
My son managed to get off the bus before my wife could get the stroller off as he started darting across the Vons parking lot.
In a panic, she dropped everything and managed to catch him before he got hurt and then started screaming at him and spanking him when apparently some "good Samaritans" rushed over and grabbed the stroller so she couldn't leave and called the police.
She was a lot more humble than I was as I almost came to blows with the same guy that was on the phone as he looked just like some sort of wanna-be a child welfare officer with my wife tugging at me - "no trouble"
We now have a daughter as well and we are living happily in a village in North China where the children are happily playing on the dirt roads as their parents look on. I never hear a child getting a beaten but what I do see is a very happy and functional families.
Conclusion: this really wasn't about my sons safety but their opportunity to display their disrespect to economic class disparities - most if not all who ride the bus into Westlake Village are maids, and nanny's
These so call communists who "beat their children" act far more Christ like and have far more liberties then we do. As once a construction Superintendent in Southern California and now an English Teacher in China, I am a Father figure to hundreds of children and I receive so much love on daily basis, I can barely hold my emotions back at times. Trust me, their actions towards my wife on that terrible day was not out of concern for my child. - Reply to this comment
- We were called to meal at table and we each had our place we sat at table. The food was on our plates. There was not extra food in dishes at table. Just the salt/pepper. This was in the foster home. I was the only blind child in the home and at school. I am legally blind in one eye and totally blind in the other. when I visited family years ago I did nid help my self. The food was put on my plate. I could ask for more. If granted the fully sighted adult would take my plate and put thr item/s I asked there. To pass the salt/pepper I waited for the their hand I could put them in their hand. Passing food I can not do.
I know years ago children were taught to share. Yep. I could not share my school books with another. I could write the class work from the bload and the teacher asked for it. I tryed to tell her as a blind pupil the blackboard was useless to me. She never got it.
Later I bough food in an eatery and told I could not share it. If I did I would have gone to jail. I can not eat in front of my tablemate while he has nothing. I won't.I will go wwithout if I don't have the money for us to eat out I was brought it is rude to do so.
My Nana would have handled this way..She would have put the food on his plate..Not him. If he wanted a slice of bread Nana would hand it to him.

- I guess the police is gonna be happier in a few years when the kid gets arrested for stealing and gets assaulted in jail. Discipline is becoming a thing of the pass in the US, that is why so many kids in the US are spoiled and arrogant and aspire to imitate trash like the Kardasians. If people wonder why the Chinese & India are passing us over. Just like the Roman the country is in full decadence at this point. Go do your little time out now since it works so well and be friends with your kids

- The kid got an Old Testament styled beating. He is lucky to not have been stoned to death.
