why is it relevant to bring up the incident where the two cops were kicking the Hispanic suspect?

This is for jaywalking, right? First imagine getting arrested for jaywalking..then imagine a girl trying to get a man off her friend/sister whatever--she should have been thrown to the ground and cuffed or turned around and cuffed. For pushing the officer, she definitely should face a charge but it should be mitigated by the circumstances. We are on the verge of lawlessness, because when the law ceases to consider its citizens, those citizens cease to consider and/or respect the law.

The behavior of both girls was out of line, however a different tactic should have been used by the cop to restrain the intervening YOUNG GIRL...yes she should have stay clear of the situation and not put her hands on the cop..but come on a direct closed fist punch to the face was a bit much. The cop could have done a better job handling the situation. I do believe this situation could be looked at as a racial incident...simple because I do not believe that cop would have punched a white girl in the face and I believe views on this issue would be different if the cop was a minority male (Black or Latino) punching a young white girl in the face..

playa1165 Really? In all my years of watching news reports, various reality tv crime shows, and in having witnessed actual arrests I have never witnessed a cops punch anyone in the face. If this is the best way that the cop could come up with to handle a teenaged FEMALE then at best he needs additional training. Even if you take race out of the issue, he was out of line, excessive, and just as out of control as she was. She has every right to file a complaint. What is soft or p/c about having the expectation as american citizens of any race that the police will not be brutal? What does that have to do with slavery?

I meant "excessive force" not "excessive abuse"

I totally think the girl was out-of-line. But the cop went way overboard. A shove to a punch in the face - no comparison. Is it possible there was some hate behind it - very possible. The girl should be charged with assault and resisting arrest and the cop should be charged with excessive abuse. ABSOLUTELY!

I think the better poll question would be...If these two girls were not black or a minority would this even be an issue. I think this nation has become way to soft and p/c. We shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around certain groups just because they whine about something that happened to someone else or hundreds of years ago. It is time to move on.

It takes a real idiot to say she was punched for jaywalking. It stopped being about jaywalking the moment they decided to resist and assault the officer.
