Calling EMB-Stem Cells the Gold standard..

How many things have EMB-Stem Cells Cured??? 0000... Nada
How many things have Adult Stem Cells Treated or Cured??? 50+

I would use the one that works as the gold standard

This is my one thing, I want to heal...

Adult Stem Cells cannot take the forms that Emb-Stem Cells can, but there are some...

Obama Ending Bush's Stem Cell Research Ban

Not a BAN, the research was not banned, it was a restriction on Funding...I wish the News Media would be honest and not be misleading in their reporting. Let the research be payed for by those that will reap the profits...Pfiser will work off the backs of great scientists and the R/D will cost nothing and the treatment will be $10,000.00.... is this what the american people want???

If we are lagging behind its because $$$ not because of a BAN...lets at least be honest about that...

If you truly believe in God, you should also believe that we are given knowledge when we are ready to accept and use that knowledge.

Correction, if you truly believe in God, you would not support the idea of creating life and then taking it away. do you not realize that in order to have stem cells you must create life and then as they 'research' it they destory it? how can one allow a tiny life to be created only to be killed? its inhumane. every living soul should have the right to live. Bush at least saw this while everyone else only looks at a possible cure to save others. who is saving the babies being killed for this research?? how can one sentence a life - an innocent life- to death? why not continue research with adult stem cells? there is more to be discovered with less risks involved. if one can manipulate the patients own stem cells there would be less risk at rejection from a donor's -aka embryonic- stem cells. america is losing sanity by allowing this. economy is economy. it will always go up or down. human life is far more precious than money.

As usual, CBS and the rest of the media refuse to use in their headline "Ebryonic". They make it appear that ANY stem cell research is banned.
This is dishonest but typical of the Left-wing who continually distort the issues to force their ideology on others.
There has been NO evidence of success using ebryonic stem cells. But that doesn't matter to the cult of death that the Left has become.

Well, whether the word "Embryonic" is used in the articles headline is irrevelent. Especially, since the word "Embryonic" was used repeatedly several times throughout the article. The Republicans addiction to inexplicably feed into the bizzarely paranoid ideal that liberals or the "liberal" media is conspiring to undermind the American People is indicative in your comments. Conspiracy theories are the refuge for the desperately paranoid.

To jesusheart-2009, There have been more than 50 million abortions to date. You are essentially saying let's give women a new incentive to have an abortion. This could potentially open other doors of terrible consequences such as women selling their embryo stem cells. Do you want to go down that road? Furthermore, there is no promise that this research will in fact cure or treat any of the diseases mentioned.

Those not in favor of the lift: eventually you'd be sick one way or another. You'd only look back and think what a fool you've been.........

i lost loved ones to diseases that are deemed to be cured through this research. i also have a high percentage of contracting one of them. i would rather die a hundred times over then have a tiny life be destroyed without a chance to live. im not the fool here. you are the one who has no conscience or compassion. what is the point in killing thousands to save thousands?? there is no progress it just balances out so how about less killing and more life?? most of these fools u refer to are believers who will enjoy salvation. i cant say u will. or do u find that offensive?

mrs_concrete...Many conservative Republicans also support this i.e. Senator Orrin Hatch from Utah.

This is great news! Other countries have already made excellent strides in this and we need to be a part of this! My husband is paraplegic with severe nerve damage it would be so great to be able to help him heal!

I love the Freudian slip by your photo cutline writer:

President Barack Obama will sign an order allowing scientists to use federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, which goes against the Bust administration.

The "Bust" administration indeed!

And please note, commentors: Embryonic stem cells are not from 'unwanted' pregnancies. They are the left-overs from artifician insemination cells. They aren't embryo's, which implies fertilized eggs. They can also be taken from what a female flushes out of her system once a month...

And ONLY embryonic stem cells can be used to re-create cells for many other parts of the body, which leads to hope for many diseases. Adult stem-cells can only re-create similar stem cells, and therefore aren't as versatile.

I applaud President Obama for reversing the Republican Party's grip on controlling stem cell research. Once again, a Democratic president was needed to remove the kryptonite from the government that constricts medical science developments.

Finally science can move forward and help some serious ill people. So much will be learned during the 8 years of the Obama Administration we will look back and wonder why this was so controversial. I applaused our young President. Posred by Baileyccc

their was never a war against science just against the killing of life. continue adult stem cell research and stop the massacre of the silent and helpless. you have no heart in you.

Well this is really kind of a "mute" issue now. Now that we can obtain the same thing through adult stem cells.
------------------------------
The point is not moot. We cannot obtain the same thing through adult stem cells, although significant advances have been made. Embryonic stem cells remain the gold standard, and will yield more information and more results more quickly.

=================================
I stand corrected......................... I meant, as the story explains, this is a mute point because of the condition described below.........

"Genetic modifications in skin cells can induce the cells into what scientists call a pluripotent state a condition that is essentially the same as that of embryonic stem cells."

TIME to work on the Economy..........................................!

My daughter suffers from the same disease as Henry. I can only hope that this works to find a cure for this horrible disease (fanconi anemia).

In 2007 Mr. Bush vetoed legislation authorizing federally-funded embryonic stem cell research, saying, "I will not allow our nation to cross this moral line."

But, he was more than willing to cross every other moral line into the immoral! To blur the lines to where no one had a clear vision of right and wrong anymore. That's not what I would call a moral leader! If most Christian's had any large amount of morals they would know just how bankrupt of them the man was.

Well this is really kind of a "mute" issue now. Now that we can obtain the same thing through adult stem cells.

Bush did allow federal funding of existing stem cell lines. He didn't like the idea of creating more emybros just to destroy them again. Some folks have an opinion on that issue.

But bottom line "private" funding has been going on strongly, Huges, for a decade now...............

Let's put these "dividing" issue to bed once and for all.

We have bigger fish to fry like the economy...........................now.
