President Outlines New Afghanistan Strategy; Thousands More Soldiers Sent To Meet "Increasingly Perilous" Threat
- Maybe we should return to the draft.......... and draft only registered demokrats. It would be a short war and Canada's population would increase by thousands.

- Well, as much as I hate war, and as much as I disagree with almost everything Obama has done to our great nation, I believe he has developed the best strategy possible for Afghanistan, even though I also believe it will probably fail.
But there is at least a small hope it can succeed. If we can truly convince the Afghan people that we are their friends, and help them provide themselves with a basic infrastructure that will provide the food, shelter, health care, and security every people needs to survive it could work.
However, after eight years of indiscriminate bombing of their civilians, and ignoring all their basic needs, there is much hatred and distrust to overcome.
Let us hope for their sake as well as ours that this plan is indeed successful.

- Hope he plans this better than his 16 month Iraq withdrawal or we will have 100,000 troops left in wars that are over.

- Like I said before, the Russians spent many years there trying the same thing. Did they get anywhere? No. They had many more troops and equipment there and couldn't do it, what makes the US Gov think they can from 10,000 miles away. Heck, the Russians were right there and could not rout them out of the caves.

- Guess the anti-war candidate is not the anti-war president. Just an observation. This will be a good way to get more war prisoners which we can turn around and release and give welfare to in a few years. I just love the Obama policies. They are sure to work!

- When Obama goes to war he is "thoughtful and intelligent" whereas Bush was a tyrant. Some one needs to explain the difference to me. At least Bush was an American citizen.

- The time to get out of Afghanistan was yester Year!
So the Troop increase can only be counter productive!
They have already Destroyed the country!
The population is evacuating for England, for college!
A Teenager was asked, why not go to America? He replied. I Couldn't Do That!
But many will, many Afghans and Iraqis will have to come to America!
Obama is Grinding deeper into a un-winable War!
The Soviet Union (RUSSIA) is still recovering from their incursion into Afghanistan".
Refugees will come here, start businesses and become successful!
Increasing over population, unemployment, poverty and homelessness for Americans!

- Why increase the complement of American Soldiers in Afghanistan? Militants rarely leave the mountains of Pakistan. Those in Afghanistan do no fight in substantial numbers. Kabul needs law enforcement technology and police methods. Al Qada uses land mines and assassinations. Terrorists prefer suicide bombers and sharp shooters for frightening NATO.

- TruePirate09,
One sign of thoughtfulness is the ability to distinguish between a needless war and a necessary one. Afghanistan is a necessary one.
An indication that an intelligent President has an eventual exit strategy on his radar is the introduction of thousands of trainers in addition to combat troops.
If sending adequate military trainers had been a higher early priority in Iraq the Iraqi Army would've been capable of taking over much sooner than what's now beginning to happen there anf there would've been less screaming from the American public. - Reply to this comment
- I imagine you left-wing, pinko, pacifists are happy that your socialist, pencil-necked, geek, president is involving us in yet another war we can't win. We cannot afford his social agenda much less another war to be fought with the same poor guys that just spent the last six years in Iraq. Are you former protesters going to support this action by enlisting? I doubt it.

- Hate to see Obama keep Bush's war going. We could send 1,000,000 troops to Afganhanistan and we would never conquer or rule this nation. USA might not agree with their religion, way of life etc. but remember these people are fighting for their religion, families, resoucers, pride, heritage, flag, etc. Our troops are fighting for a monthly pay check. Who do you think will win?

- Then Senator Obama never thought the U.S. should have taken its eye off the ball in Afghanistan and invade Iraq in the first place! President Obama's Afghanistan Policy should not come as a shock or surprise to anyone, Pres. Obama always wanted the U.S. to finish its business in Afghanistan, which was and is to find and disable Osama bin Laden.
