Three Republicans Agree To A $780 Billion Package, Down From More Than $900 Billion
- Well, Bush inherited the national security failings of the Clinton Administration. Reagan inherited the financial mess left by Carter. Democrats need to stop crying about how bad Bush was and start leading. If the economy is good and there has not been a major terrorist attack in 4 years then they may keep power. If not.... well, then the Republicans can have another go at it.

and Clinton took over a recession left to him by GWB and Reaganomics, and Clinton left Bush with a budget surplus just 8 years ago...
Republican''s are the problem abd Obama is by far leading and trying to accomodate republicans ideas... but republicans obviously would rather burn this ocuntry to the ground then to actually help a democrat president succeed
It is very obvious to see exactly what republican''ts are all about... there about themselves their way or the highway. Problem is republican''t policies always cause pain for the workers and lower classes because republicants subscribe to an aristocracy styles government called conservatism which does not work... - Reply to this comment

- So now this Dem utopia engorge with wasteful spending package is now a recovery package? This is really frightful. Neither the president nor his obedient hyena henchmen have a clue what will really happen to the economy if this piece of trash is actually pushed through. Where will be borrow the money from to benefit mostly the poor and lower income bracket? Who is going to loan this much money for a pig in a poke pork program like this? How much interest will all of this really cost? How much credible economic stimulus and actual non-government new jobs'' creation will truly occur? Should the very young be made to realize that this package will end any future for them? Blame Bush all you want too, but the Dems and only the Dems authored this hideous spending package. We now know that phase-1 was imprudently done to the tune of over-paying over $70B. How much will this rush to pass phase-2 ultimately cost the taxpayers in errors in over-paying all due to no objective intelligence in discussing, no scrutiny, no timely deliberate due diligence and no real commitment to our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. What is so unique about the mid-February date Mr. President? Too bad we''re all not bowing to your fingers being snapped. This is potentially too costly to rush it through.

- Too bad the loony-left just can''''t handle the TRUTH:

"President Obama''''s economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.

Thanks to your posting, I actually found and read the CBO letter, and your quote is grossly misleading. The report says infructuture spending would create 1.3 to 3.9 million jobs by 2010. It goes on to say there would be less stumilus from tax cuts, since some of that would go to savings not spending. The part you refer to states "And in 2019, thanks to the national debt, the GDP could actually be slightly lower than if the government had done nothing."
In other words, putting up to 3.6 million people to work greatly outweighs the potential to ''slightly lower'' the GDP by 2019! There would be plenty of time between now and then to address that problem!
Sorry LoonLeft, it''s the Republicans who are loony, thinking we can try the same old solutions and end up with a different result! Just remember who''s policies got us into this mess! - Reply to this comment

Obviously, you have a job and is snubbing your nose at those who DON''T.
YOU ALSO OBVIOUSLY HAVE SOME MENTAL ISSUES YOURLSELF. - Reply to this comment
- These are nothing if not interesting (and kinda scary) times we live in. If Obama gets this bill through, we will probably be subject to hyperinflation (and a weak to no growth economy)for at least a decade. If it fails to pass, we could be in for an absolute meltdown in the short-term maybe followed by relatively quick growth after it all gets sorted out. Which is the lesser of two bad situations? All this because people assigned huge amounts of basically made up value to assets in an attempt to sell them off in the short-term for a net gain. A lot of the value of our economy was essentially wishful thinking, and now reality is setting in...

Actually its you and people like you that have issues...
Obama is taking over the worse financial mess in modern history.. Unprecedented and he is workign hard for common ground
It is completely obvious that republican''t would rather dig a hole and bury the country before ever working with the otherside....
We are witnessing the last days of republican''ts because when the stimulus does pass, and when Americans start feeling some releif they are going to remember how the Grand Old Pansies refused to help out the working and lower classes once again...
I''m luaghing because I had hoped republican''ts would do exactly what they are doing.. proving to America how out of touch they all are with reality - Reply to this comment
- "These numbers demand action," said Mr. Obama, who plans to campaign for the bill in Indiana and Florida next week. "It is inexcusable and irresponsible for any of us to get bogged down in distraction, delay or politics as usual while millions of Americans are being put out of work."
I think Obama has got some mental issues. - Reply to this comment
- Dems are the one''s with the big bat now. What''s the hold up? I''m ready to see what happens. It will either work or it will turn into a big fiasco. Either way it will be interesting to watch.
