Welcome to 19th Century economics. Obama needs a Commerce Secretary, perhaps he could add William Jennings Bryan. - Reply to this comment
- neocons_suck,
What is your problem?
Many countries have strengths from which America could benefit. I like Toronto''''s public transport system. Australia''''s medical system could be a model for the reform of the US system. Restrictions on highway advertising and traffic safety rules practiced in many countries would be helpful. Fortunately with HD the US got away from NTSC.
I love the US. Through the Constitution and Bill of Rights its citizens have more freedoms than anywhere else in the world. Don''''t give examples of lack of restrictions on dangerous drugs in other countries, because I don''''t consider that to be a freedom.

Why, through their actions, do conservatives repeatedly demonstrate their deep hatred for America? - Reply to this comment
- ...that''s because the world wants Obama to be bold enough and end the British Financial Empire, not bail it out.
Obama can deliver mankind from an unfolding dark age and construct a post-Keynesian America where British influences from John Maynard Keynes, John Locke and Adam Smith with his ''invisible hand'' is done away with once and for all.
If Obama seizes this moment and returns America to period where human beings not paper money has intrinsic value.
If Obama ends Anglo-Dutch neo-liberalism of ''free trade'' and globalization, the Friedmanites will flee back to England and we will be free again to protect our economy in re-development through high import tariffs.
If Obama SHUTS DOWN the illegal Federal Reserve System and gets rid of private central banking systems once and for all, we can go back to Sovereign Nation Staturs and ''utter'' our own currency once again.
The world is just waiting for Obama to lead a New Bretton Woods conference and stabilize currencies world wide by going back to fixed-exchange-rates.
If Obama rebuilds our economy the right way then he will be logged into the history books as the American President who slayed the British Financial Empire and delivered the world from a British induced New Dark Age. - Reply to this comment

- England''''s healthcare is worse than Canada''''s. The waiting lists are longer and many of the medical facilities are antiquated. I understand that you might have to wait in outpatients for up to eight hours if you are not an emergency patient. If you try to go private, you could face a bill of more than $300.

- Despite this, there were roadblocks and delays for patients.

I can only tell you what I know and hear. Is there someone that has had to wait? I''m sure there is, but I would imagine it would have to be for a "particular" reason. - Reply to this comment

Not all "universal" healthcare is the same. Ours is not the same as England''s.
I was watching a TV program awhile back and this Canadian woman married and American man. They have a couple of kids and she said she is stressed all the time. She worries constantly that one of her kids is going to get sick and need medical care. I couldn''t imagine having to live like that. - Reply to this comment

- erasmus606,
The family member was a knee operation. I believe it was put off several times due to cancellations initiated by the hospital.
Here are some words from my interview (these are not my words, but the words of a doctor who has practiced in the US, Toronto and Australia among other places.
"In Canada, doctors are employed in hospitals full-time. They are either practicing medicine or are in a teaching role.
%u201CThe teaching was excellent,%u201D he said.
%u201CThe surgeons were mindful of looking after people.%u201D
Despite this, there were roadblocks and delays for patients. They had to deal with delays for operations longer than those in Australia and there was no way of bypassing the system short of crossing the border to the US.
There was a lot more red tape and a lot more bureaucracy to deal with. - Reply to this comment
- Some of the "better off" Canadians cross the border because they figure they are to good to even wait a day. They want, what they want, when they want it.
If I have to wait a week for a specialist appointment, or even two weeks, that isn''''t bad considering we ALL have healthcare. I would even be willing to wait 6 months, because I know I will be looked after. No one here is without care. And if it is an emergency, you are first in line. If you go into the hospital and you have a problem, it''''s fixed before you leave.

Interesting subject, especially for Americans. I was talking to a couple of ladies from England. I asked them why they don''t just move here because their kids live here and they fly over all of the time to see them. They said no way. I asked them if they didn''t like it here and they said they loved it here, but no way would the move here with our health care system. I asked them about Englands because I had heard horror stories and they said, no, it is great. They never have a problem with it. I don''t know if universal, government paid, insurance, is the answer, but I do know that we have go to do something different. I am tired of being terrified that one medical catastrophe could wipe out everything my husband and I have worked for our whole lives. - Reply to this comment

- Actually, I was talking about Vancouver with the family member.

I''m in Vancouver and know of no one that has had long waits. I''m sure that there is probably someone for whatever reason that has maybe had to wait, but I don''t know of any. - Reply to this comment
