by aaronslaworegon August 25, 2012 3:45 PM EDT I hope the media will look into the Mormon practice of shunning, and the way that the LDS church carves families apart, separating the Mormons from the non-Mormons. Nothing could be clearer than the way they coerce your adult children to exclude you from their wedding ceremonies.
The Mormons describe this as an issue of sacredness, but it is an insidious way of coercing converts to cross a psychological line, choosing the church over the convert's own family, knowingly creating permanent schisms in families. This could be the future of your own family.
As the father of four children who disappeared into theocratic Utah in a Mormon shunning/abduction 16 years ago, I have much to say about this.
In 2005, the Oregon legislature passed Senate Bill 1041, known as "Aaron's Law" for my late son Aaron Cruz who died in the course of his abduction and forced immersion into Mormonism.
Mormon officials in three states planned and carried out the abduction.
With Aaron's Law, Oregon became the first and only state in the nation where abducting a child creates a civil cause of action, the right to sue your child's kidnappers for damages.
If Aaron's Law had been on the books in 1995, my family would still be whole and my son still alive.
Find out more at the Aaron's Law website.
I hope to see the principles of Aaron's Law applied nationwide. This would put an end to a great many church shunnings, Mormon, LDS or otherwise. Reply to this comment --------------------------------

tb91006 , You refer to Mormonism as a religion; Cult is a more appropriate label.
Joseph Smith, who was convicted of fraud for conning neighbors into hiring him to find buried treasure using a magic glass tucked in his hat, wrote the Book of Mormon and created the Mormon Church in 1830.
Almost the entire book of Mormon is copied from passages in the king James Bible and other "Bibles" that were easily available at the time Joseph Smith wrote it.
Joseph Smith interpreted the passages in the book of Mormon from some gold plates he found buried in New York. He used that magic glass both to find the gold plates and to interpret the passages).
Those Golden plates would have had to been buried in New York around 400 AD, at least 1000 years before America was even discovered
The Mormon Church (read Romney) reveres Joseph Smith as a prophet.
Romney is not just a professional con artist he is a religiously inspired one. Apparently he has picked an appropriate running mate too.
Romney's a tax evading cheat of the highest order he and Ryan can't wait to get into office to eliminate any tax obligations for him and the rest of his super rich donors only to leave the regular Americans the bill.

LATP seems to follow the teachings of Glenn Beck. And, yes, they fear the Muslim Brotherhood, as evidenced by their website. Why Romney would chose to meet with and address such a group, with the press camera rolling, is possibly his biggest blunder to date. Commerce, MI is 96.73% White, 57.8% between ages 25-64 and men make nearly twice the money women make. It's a Tea Party Heaven, or Hell, depending on your viewpoint.
ZionCensor--- A lot of properties have depreciated in value. Mine certainly has in the last 4 yrs. by going down about 25%. Romney's certainly not the only one in the country asking that their property tax assessment reflect the depreciation of home values.
As I sit here, I read the headlines that state "Neil Armstrong- 1st man on the moon has passed away".... Lower the flag for a true American hero has died.

Mitt Romney is a bully and a weasel, he says mean things and then either denies them or when he can't deny them he falls back on "Can't you take a joke". Now he will whine about being picked on because of his 'joke'. Release your tax returns, Mr. Romney, what are you hiding?

Who's the one that is really afraid of the truth here?
Let's see the last 12 years of your taxes Mr. "I don't want to pay my fair share, but it's ok for all of you suckers to make up the difference".
Liberals seem to thin skinned.
Repubs and dems at each others' throats has disintegrated any meaningful discussion of the issues in our once-great nation.
