So Palin and the other airheaded conservatives WANT big government to tell people who they can marry or not? I thought they wanted small government and freedom.

This is dumb as Hell! The place's job is to serve fried chicken not preach social morals. Also if gay marriage is a big issue for you over the war, economy, and deficit then you seriously need to pull your head out your ass. Something Palin should also do.
Leave it to Sarah Palin to join the "circus". (Just another clown) This whole thing has been given waaaaaaaaaay too much attention. They give themselves way too much importance. Now some stupid fast food joint thinks it is so "special". Well, they're NOT! And Sarah Palin thinks she is a real celebrity. Well, she's NOT! (Like who reslly cares who she speaks out for? She's NOBODY!)
Palin: Chick-fil-A owner "getting crucified"
Really??? Well, I'm sure Christ will be glad to know that somebody else is suffering just like HE did (NOT) and for such a worthy cause too. Did Christ die for "selfrighteousness"??? Nope I think not. Christ died for EVERYBODY (and yes that means the gays too).
These fanatics need to get over themselves. They are a ledgend in their own minds.
I suppose she finally found a way to get her name in the news other than whining about the convention. First she says "the restaurant chain" believes in traditional marriage then she says "he was stating a personal opinion". Still can't learn her lines I see. I still maintain that if the organization does not discriminate their head can believe anything he wants his right. But people do what they want if you feel you need to boycott do it. The one thing is they certainly do not deserve an "appreciation day" because of this. That was just bald face advertising. I assume huckabee was either angling for a job or free food. If you can call that stuff food personally I don't.
RetiredArmy_Nurse August 1, 2012 2:10 PM EDT Nurses have next to nothing to do with userous pharmaceutical companies. We give the meds the pharmacy sends us and have nothing to do with their purchase. RNs are generally in support of all Americans receiving healthcare. We are not greedy health insurance companies, nor on the receiving end of the "make a buck" private hospitals. The 11% statistic is not mine. I even knew a great number of gays in the Army before it was OK to "come out." They are people, just like you and me, with families & loved ones. They deserve their civil rights just like the rest of us. RNs are far more interested in seeing healthcare for all Americans, rather than just the privileged few, than the other healthcare professions. Even doctors like the Affordable Healthcare Act as it allows them to treat patients without worry of their ability to pay. No one really likes the pill companies, including RNs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I never questioned your dedication to the public receiving good healthcare, I simply suggested that it would be a far more noble cause to protest against greedy pharmaceutical companies than to support what you call "gay rights." It is a growing problem affecting far more people than this passing incident of an owner expressing his personal opinion and certainly it's an area where you have professional expertise.
But I will call you to task on two issues. First, your 11% figure is essentially wrong. There is no legitimate study to support that number. You might as well use the opinion poll where people were asked what percentage of people they thought were gay and the numbers soared above 20%. We are talking about a miniscule percentage of the public populace that is being given undue attention concerning imaginary violations of civil rights. They have civil rights. They can vote, work, study, travel or whatever other thing they want with complete freedom but the topic of marriage in the vast majority of opinions, offends the institution and what it historically represents. I have never suggested that they were less than you or me, but they are distinctly different and merely being different does not entitle anyone to special liberties. There is a chasm of difference between the negro of the 1960s asking why he could not vote only because he was black and someone now asking why they cannot marry because their bride is a man.
Actually, my stat was old. Cuurent stats put 8% of men and 7% of women as being gay. As for rights, these folks are not equal. They suffer gross discrimination as to property rights, survival rights, visiting rights in hospitals, ability to adopt children, ability to file a joint tax return, spousal coverage by employers, etc. Without the right of marriage, they are looked upon as biological strangers from a legal standpoint. Hospitals will not allow them to visit ill partners, nor make end of life choices. These people often love each other more than heterosexual couples, but our discriminatory laws put a huge wall between them. As Americans, we should strive for equal rights for all. Choosing a same sex relationship should not be looked upon as lesser than an opposite sex relationship. The feelings, love, & commitment are the same, if not more. Why should "religious" people feel they have the right to dictate the rights of others? There is no real difference here between laws that stopped interracial marriage prior to the 1970s. The couples I have known are very low profile and want nothing other than to be left alone and to enjoy the same rights as everyone else. Basically, it is not our business, any more than it is our business to stick our nose into it when blacks marry whites, or indians, or asians, or whatever. We should be past this discrimination in America.
