Do the math people, hire a teacher, policemen, and fireman. pay them 43,333.00 yearly using tax payers dollars. they get 26,000.00 in medical benefits each year plus retirement at 20 years for life, but pay back around 17 percent in taxes. So how is that going to lower the deficit or increase the economy, It is NOT, Public workers are a drain on the tax payers and the economy,Of course some are needed but time to thin the ranks and keep the good ones.
It's kind of scary that LBO artist Romney, who's supposed to be such an expert on getting the economy going again, doesn't understand the first thing about how things work in the REAL economy.
If I own a grocery store or a beauty salon or an exercise studio or a tax preparation service, I don't give two hoots whether my clients receive their paychecks from a corporation or a government agency; I ONLY care that they DO receive their paychecks. I also don't care whether clients who work for local or state government are getting paid because the federal government is helping their jurisdiction get through a difficult economy; I JUST care that they get paid.
It's called DEMAND, Mitt; it's the primary reason our recovery has been so anemic: we don't have enough DEMAND. And we WON'T have enough demand so long as the GOP obstructionists in Congress think they can get away with savaging the American people in order to put Mitt Romney in the White House. I hope and believe the American people are smart enough to see what the Republicans are doing. Am I correct?
What's absurd is the thought Romney really cares about any of this. All I see is his wanting the Presidency because then he can say I have it all now. Take away the funds that hire public workers and the community will suffer with less police and fire protection, larger classroom sizes (Yes, it does make a difference) and less wages being spent then in the community. Sort of a trickle down but the trickle is more immediate and larger.
That is more like trickle UP than percolate up. The Reverse Robin Hood of the GOP should be getting old by now, but the Greed Disease spread by Reagan is virulent.
For probably the first time since he's been in Office; I actually agree with Obama.
If Romney does not even know that state and local government are subsidized by the federal government with a certain amount of money (based on population); he sure as hell isn't competent enough to become President.
Some of the statements that come out of these politicians mouth are unbelievable.
No wonder the Entire United States is on the verge of collapse.
We need teachers to educate our children so they will have the knowledge they need to become tomorrow's successful leaders.
For the last 11 1/2 years, the Presidents and the Congress have done more damage to the US than any other politicians in history.
Every year, thanks to the federal government, the states receive less and money to operate on.
In the city where I live, in the past four or five years when the budget comes up; more and more firemen and police officers lose their jobs.
One of these days there is going to be a huge fire where many lives are endangered.
The Mayor is going to have a lot of explaining to do when a large number of people die in this fire because there was not enough equipment and firefighters to save them.
The same goes for the police department.
One of these days there is going to be a huge civil disturbance and citizens will be hiding in their basements because there are not eough police officers to contain the rioters.
The politicians had better learn; and SOON; not to shoot their mouths off when their brains aren't loaded.
It gets more and more disgusting every day.
I hate to see November 2012 come, because no matter who is elected, we are going to be in BIG trouble, and; maybe even BIGGER trouble.
In the city where I live, in the past four or five years when the budget comes up; more and more firemen and police officers lose their jobs. ______________________________________
fiddle, in case you hadn't noticed, 5 years ago there was a little event affectionately know as The Crash. Since then tax revenues are down (property taxes have taken the biggest hit and typically make up a substantial percentage of local budgets)
Cities can handle fire and police at the local level. You elect people to negotiate with them, if you do not like the job they do, then let them know and find someone that will do a better job. Like Mitt says "I like firing people".
The ones crafted by politicians or the ones that real people and real laborers are enduring?
politifact.com has more to say on Walker as well - I OPENLY REFUSE to hear anything coming out of Walker. His own record, as told by a site that goes after EVERY politician, speaks for itself.
Romney is on the record supporting school vouchers. The federal government has a say in how their money is spent on education. Look at the Mormon church's view on school vouchers. The evidence is there, he just does not have the courage to come right out and say it.
School vouchers sound so good to the Catholics, Lutherans, the other denominations that have schools. What if an Islamic school applies for vouchers? Then watch the screaming and yelling. Hey, it is a religious organization that would like to have schools. What the big uproar about?
Excellent comment, it seems that only certain religions are acceptable. I would say Scientology is more of a philosophy than a religion, but if enough rich famous people follow it, that might be acceptable to the GOP.
Either way, separation of church and state is a good principle for so many reasons. Faith Based Initiatives from Bush were nothing but a thinly disguised program to get tax payer dollars into the church's hands.
by sjc_1 June 12, 2012 12:52 PM EDT Mitler Robme wants school vouchers so parents can get $6000 in tax payer money each year to send their kids to religious (Mormon) schools. __________________________________________
More made up drivel.
$48 billion of taxpayer money is going to be spent on poor and disadvantaged kids regardless of what happens. It can be done on of two ways - give it to the schools and let them decide what to do with it, or tie it to the kids and let the schools only spend what they get from attracting disadvantaged kids with effective programs.
One way is more effective than the other, or so the thinking goes. I'll guarantee you it's not Liberal sprinkle taxpayer money all over the land thinking. Schools already get money that way - attracting students and making sure they attend (that's why they take attendance). I assume you have a problem with that too?
by Zann-Zel June 12, 2012 12:11 PM EDT He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message in Wisconsin? The American people did. It's time for us to cut back on government and help the American people." ------------- What a ridiculous statement! Are firemen, policemen and teachers not "American people?" : / And is there job not to help American people? And don't they buy products when they have jobs, that help keep the American economy moving? And don't they pay taxes when they have jobs? ________________________________
All of those are true statements, Zann, his point is rather that we need less government spending. Their salaries are the government spending.
BTW, regarding the lib myth that handing out more jobs (which is Obama's premise - budget more jobs from the government) will stimulate "demand", consider this: Say a Fireman is hired and his salary is $50,000/yr or $4166 per month. Have you injected $4166 worth of demand into the economy?
No, the guy's not sitting there with no expenses and suddenly starts consuming $4166 worth of goods and services. The net gain is a few hundred. So taxpayers spend $4166 to net maybe a few hundred dollars of increased demand at best? That's not a real compelling argument, I'll be honest with you.
Government spending is part of the economy. Lets say we eliminated all taxes for the rich, according to the myth, this should create LOTS of jobs. However, we now have to fire most of the government employees. Now that the wealthy have more cash, they put it in hedge funds that invest all over the world, but not here.
It shouldn't be all about Democrats or Republicans!
It should be about doing the right thing for our country and the majority of its citizens. I consider myself an independent voter, but going back to the Reagan days and with the only exception having been Perot, I've always voted Republican. But all this single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go! This is the problem with our country. It shouldn't be about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens.
Both parties have sold out the bulk of the American citizens, who they're supposed to represent, by allowing the "out-sourcing" floodgates to open wider and wider without taking any sensible measures to stem the tide. (Under Clinton jobs to China, Under Bush I & II influx of illegals or cheap easily abused labor into the US and jobs to Mexico/NAFTA) Our leaders are elected by the Citizens of the United States of America to represent the interests of those citizens and the country itself. They are NOT elected by the Global Market Place or foreign citizens!
We need whoever wins the next election to Start Protecting American Jobs and do whatever it takes to bring back the jobs they let go. They've got to give us somebody who will stand up for the American people.
We need to bring manufacturing back to the United States of America and both parties are ignoring tariffs as a way to level the playing field, raise money and bring jobs back home. Let's guess why. Oh that's right, tariff is a dirty word. Hum, maybe it's that our so called leaders (political leaders) are beholden to the same people who are exporting our jobs.
I guess we should keep letting Corp Boards, Wall Street, CEOs and Foreign Lobbyists promote sending US jobs to countries where they work for slave wages, no benefits, no OSHA safety standards or no real environment regulations. How's that been working for us?
The so called "Global Market Place" is not a level playing field. Companies may have made higher profits by "out sourcing", but they've been putting middle class Americans who are a good part of the world's customer base out of work. I'm not a lefty or member of any union. I run a business that employs over 20 people and produces products that are purchased by customers that do manufacturing and packaging. I'm just an average Joe, but I've been saying this for more than 10 years now. If I can see it, so can our so called leaders (political leaders) who are beholden to the same people who are exporting our jobs.
We need to add tariffs that are proportionate to the inequities in wages and regulations in the country where the goods were produced and or where we're importing them from. We could then use the money raised by these tariffs to help companies build state of the art manufacturing plants here in the USA, which would create more jobs here at home for US citizens, which would then in turn increase our income tax revenue.
The people with all of the excuses as to why we can't or aren't willing to manufacture products here in the US are the same people who have provided us with the thinking that's gotten us into this mess in the first place.
Over the past 15-20 years, I've seen too many of our customer's close manufacturing plants here in the USA and move those plants to different countries, decimating entire areas here in OUR COUNTRY. And I'm not alone. Returning jobs to American Citizens will provide income tax revenue to OUR Government versus our government having to pay unemployment benefits to those who would be jobless instead.
Bringing manufacturing back to the US not only gives jobs to the US citizens who would be working in those manufacturing facilities, but to the people that would be working in the businesses that would spring up all around them. This should also include the safe harvesting, production and distribution of our own natural energy here in the USA, rather than paying for fuel from countries where they hate us. Let's keep that money and those jobs here in the US.
These so-called "free trade agreements" have to go. It was obvious when they were passing these agreements as to what was going to happen and sure enough it did. Our leaders had to have known this as well when they were passing these bills. It's just common sense. We also need to bring customer support services back to the United States of America and staff them with employees who are US Citizens.
The "Global Market Place" is not a level playing field! The whole idea of the tariffs is so we can pay our factory workers a decent wage and not be blown out by these other countries where they don't play by the same rules.
We may have to pay a bit more for products made here in the USA by US citizens, but at least we'll still have jobs and a future for our children.
The bottom line is that "Our Government" has to protect American industry and the jobs that those industries provide. If they do that, the rest will take care of itself.
All this single-minded, left versus right, ideological one dimensional bull has got to go! This is the problem with our country.
It shouldn't be about Democrats or Republicans! It should be about Americans, especially our elected officials, doing the right thing for our country and its citizens.
Romney should take a couple of months off , move to a rental apartment, lets say for a rent of $1500/mon, utilities not included, take his wife and couple of his sons with him and try to live on a income of $3500/mon after taxes, pay $1000/mon for health insurance and let's see if he finally gets what it means to be a middle class family in this society. He needs the learning experience.
They would not make it a day, they are so used to the mansions and luxury, no sense living like the poor slobs that Romney threw into the streets after he looted their companies.
