I have a question but I'm not sure how to word it...

Are you a "Christian" because you agree with the things Jesus did?
Or do you attempt to understand all the things Jesus did because its in the Bible and you call yourself a Christian?

In other words, does your sense of "Morality" come FROM the Bible - or from within Yourself?

Empire - other than the fact that common sense and compassion are innate human traits in most of us.

Who told you someone else needed to tell you to be nice???

A good act becomes immoral when the government does it.

Interesting.
Murder is immoral - but when the government condones it, its just defense.

So a bad act becomes moral when the government does it.

If a good act becomes immoral when the government does it - then you have been "conditioned" to believe "government" is bad - always bad! You're very pessimistic Mortar!

I agree with Zann, the law does not equate with morality. It is not moral for people to not have health care and for one in every 4 children in America to go hungry. But there is no law that requires us to end this travesty even though it is immoral.

Just because it is "legal" for Wal Mart to come into communities and destroy the local economy does not make it right.

Mortar doesn't understand that taxation isn't theft.

Otherwise, I want my money back for the past two major land wars.

So if laws are passed that make health care a social program like Medicare or VA facilities, then we should all be OK with that. If the federal government passes laws that allow gay marriage or mandating the states to protect the environment, that is also just fine.

The purpose of the federal government is to set minimum standards for almost everything that the states can follow or be more strict. But not less.

"the tea party movement is hoping for more good news "

So is most of America, every time a tea party person runs it means another Democrat will win as no one will vote for any tea party in the 2012 elections. The Tea Party burnt the American people in 2010 and that will not happen again.

Governments cannot do acts of benevolence. It isnt possible, because to do so, they must sin
---------------------

Mortar : /
Governments do not "sin".
Governments do not go to heaven or hell or get forgiven!

PEOPLE - are the ones that must figure out what right and wrong is - and help to influence the government!

Personally I choose to influence my government to focus MORE on healing and LESS on killing.

The problem is, Mortar, that what you call "immoral" is different from what Jesus would call "immoral".

Using your argument, I am being forced to wage war and killing innocent civilians, which is immoral and sinful.

KansasCity-2012 says:
Tea Party ideology is popular in Texas and many who know Texas history will understand how compatible it actually is. Here are the facts:

Nearly every state has a full time legislature - Not Texas.

Nearly every state has income taxes - Not Texas.

Nearly every state can successfully legislate without later facing a Federal Supreme Court ruling that nullifies or reverses their legislation - Not Texas

Nearly every state can react to social conditions that either require urgent modifications in judicial procedures or criminal statutes - Not Texas

Economically - Texas is 180 degrees out of phase with the rest of the country. When the country's economy is poor, things are great in Texas, but the reverse is also true.

Health Care in Texas is just like in Florida - Live by two rules 1. never get sick 2. If you do get sick, then die quickly
