So the freeloader and tax dodger who recently renounced his US citizenship, knew better than the rest of us. Maybe it will be wise for me to make plan to move to Singapore or China.

Let that stupid tax cut expire for EVERYONE. Yes, even for middle class people like me. This country will be better for it in the long run. It was a stupid idea from the beginning.

I agree. I don't want to see my tax burden increased substantially, but if it would mean that the debt was being paid down, it would be worth it. We still need to address the problem of capital gains being taxed at a staggeringly low 15%. Perhaps, 15% on the first $500K of gains, and a progressive rate after that.

Sorry speaker boner, but the credit agencies said themselves, it was the dysfunctional congress that caused the credit downgrade -- certainly not the President's fault -- so your republican history revision fails once more!

apu, let's agree to an across the board cut, then. This is the only fiscally responsible thing to due. Cut Medicare, cut Social Security and increase eligibility age requirements, cut the military by about 50% and we'd still be outspending almost the entire rest of the world combined, cut the Bush tax CUTS - increase taxes to healthy, historically balanced levels. A balance of tax increases to normal levels, and a fair cut to all expenses, especially the largest expenditures in the federal budget (military, SS, and Medicare) would certainly send us in the right direction to paying down the deficit. Nobody on either side will agree to this, though.

As to the point occupy is making, it was the House of Representatives that stalemated the budget talks last year. The house is dominated by Republicans, so yes, you could say it was mostly Republicans putting their fat-cat cronies above you and I. The Democrats compromised for the sake of the Middle Class and allowed the ridiculous tax rates continue. In this way, the Reps really held our best interest hostage for their welfare for the rich.

Just a little history:

If they didn't care back then*, why do they claim to care now?

* we had something of a massive debt back then, too

I'm not saying or implying Democrats have all been angels, especially where any relevant context is concerned, but right-wing hypocrisy doesn't deserve to be swept under any carpets

So if the debt limit is not raised, the deficit spending is ended?
Sounds like a good thing.....

No, not at all, if the extremist republicans fail to raise the debt limit for PAST SPENDING and WHAT WE ALREADY OWE, we will default and send the world markets into a free fall.

You fox/rush parrots are really misinformed and scary!

Why do we even have a Congress, they appear to do nothing when they are in session and even less when they are out. They need to compromise, both sides. The Democrats have tried to compromise, but the Republicans are just playing politics with the debt and budget deficits.
