I don't care for either the GOP or the Dem proposals. I wanted a single payer option plan. Those who choose to keep private insurance can keep it all their lives (even after age 65) and those who want the single payer (like medicare) option will have that all their lives. Both will get what they want, and both will pay for only that which they select. They must decide by age 30 what they want and that is the selection they must stick with all their lives. You can choose the single payer option and if you can afford it, also have private insurance too, but you will pay for both and you cannot opt out of the single payer option once your choise has been made nor can you at age 65 decide you want to go single payer if you already choose private insurance.
Actually Obama-care is misnamed. It's not Romney-care either - even though Obama really copied Mitt Romney's health care plan - with Mitt Romney's blessing.
Actually the FIRST people to propose a mandate requiring everyone to buy health insurance was the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing, Republican think tank, back in 1989.
In the early 90's, conservative Republicans like Orrin Hatch, Chuck Grassley and Newt Gingrich all supported and/or promoted laws for an individual mandate.
Obama simply copied proposals originated by Republicans. So we should really call President Obama a Copy Cat.
So rather than calling the ACA Obama-care, let's call it Heritage-care. And if the SCOTUS declares Heritage-care unconstitutional, then what does this decision tell us about the intelligence of the Heritage Foundation and conservative Republicans?
P.S. I got this information from "Education Votes" a newsletter published by the NEA. Why doesn't CBS tell people the whole truth?
the heritage foundation is a corporate wealthy special interest funded propaganda machine, who's soul purpose is to push the agenda of the corporate wealthy special interests. i take anything from them for just what it is, propaganda.
Talk about irony! A teabagger down the road from me lost the family farm to the state. His mother spent the last of her days in a state run nursing home. If we had a single payer health care system he would have got to inherit the family farm.. Too Funny!!
USSR, if you go back and re-read the article you will find that the majority of Americans agree with the law. The only portion that appears to be unpopular is the mandate to carry health insurance.
