This is clear as a bell. Government cannot force you to buy anything. To those idiots who compare the need for compulsory healthcare to that of car insurance: Idiots! Driving is a privilege and not a right.Congress did an overreach on this and must be put in its place.
The reason that there is such ambivalence about this bill is that many people have mischaracterized it( and some have deliberately lied and distorted the facts on ideological and/ or political grounds), from the beginning. The bottom line is:getting sick or injured will happen to everybody, at some point. It isn't a choice. The uninsured usually end up in ERs for their health care, which is very expensive. The taxpayer absorbs the cost. This causes the country's debt to skyrocket. The health care plan enables uninsured people to assume the responsibility for their own health care. The only people that the government is mandating to buy something are people who don't have insurance coverage , already; but will , at some point in their lives, will get sick, need it, not have it; and cause the taxpayer to pay for their medical debts. The people who are the most vocal about the deficit( which is a legitimate concern)should be supportive of the bill, because the health care bill( with the mandate in place-which makes sense from several standpoints); will decrease the debt, over time.
I don't think the poll tells us the answer. The old health care system was truly abominable. Insurers basically said, "You're fully covered, as long as you don't make a claim. Then, we drop you." You were happy with the old system? You get health care as specified by your employer. You get sick, you lose your job, and good luck getting insurance under $1000 per month.
The new health care cut the GOP out of the debate, and they had some good ideas. I don't blame those who don't like ObamaCare, but somehow repealing one awful system to go back to another awful system is a fool's errand.
We've lost our way, and it's another fool's errand to sit around pointing fingers. There needs to be some serious head-banging in the legislative branch. Sit down and work together in earnest purpose for America's best interest. Hold your representatives accountable when they put their party over our best interests.
