Mr. Slevin was initially arrested for driving while intoxicated though ultimately all charges were dismissed by the county court.
In 2012, a federal jury found Mr. Slevin was deprived of constitutional rights and procedural due process rights during his 22 month indefinite detention. The federal jury awarded Mr. Slevin damages of $22 million after the federal case filed in 2008 against Dona Ana County came to trial.
