Santorum won four, Gingrich has won one, Romney has won six. Paul has won none, came in second in three, third in four and dead last in the rest.
If he thinks he can get any "momentum" going with Virginia (which would give him a delegate count still in dead last of the four still in the race), he's as deluded as his policies.
I'm not sure what Ron Paul's problem is as far as firing up followers. (Other than I know I'm not interested in kissing off the thousands and thousands of dollars I've already paid into Social Security and Medicare so that he can abolish it and finish ripping off the trusts.)
I'd suggest it was because he's not fundamentalist right-wing enough to gain the "Christian" Taliban and TeaBagger vote, but then neither is Romney as far as that goes.
But, given the fact that he can't seem to get much of a following, I have to wonder why he's still in the race. Just to confuse the GOP by splitting them up three ways instead of two?
Paul is 76 years old. This is his last viable shot at the presidency, which he has tried for several times in the past. He refuses to "play nice" with anyone, so is an utter failure as a politician.
My opinion is that he knows he probably won't last another 8 years, so if he want's his place in history as other than a side-show foot-note (as most candidates who lose and lose big tend to be considered, when they're considered at all, but in his case also as an utterly ineffectual representative who has absolutely no relevant legislation attributable to his name after nearly 30 year sin politics), this is his last shot at securing a "legacy".
because most people don't take the time to research the issues and rely on emotional appeal. read about the fed and you will likely agree with his policy on it. the problem is, monetary policy, which affects you/us in a more meaningful way than anything else, is not a very sexy issue. and your thousands (and mine) in social security won't be there much longer regardless. and if somehow they continue that farce, you will be paid in dollars that are worth less than they are now. and fatesrider, he has never been interested in securing a legacy or authoring marquis legislation...just protecting and upholding the law we already have in the Constitution. if only every politician was so selfless.
I don't understand why people would vote for anyone but Ron Paul. Is it that he's not favorably represented by the media? He doesn't have the most money? Seems like whoever has the most money wins. Obama has the most, he's most likely to win.
Actually, Perry had the most money, and lost. Santorum has a personal billionaire funding him. Paul has more money than Gingrich, and that shows. Romney is the anointed one since he's the only candidate who has less than half a chance of beating Obama in the fall, but the others have considerably less chance than that. That seems to be the determining factor in this election - electability. Romney also has more money behind him than Obama.
If you don't know why people don't want Paul, it might be good for you to exercise your brain for a change and look at what would happen if his rhetorical and delusional policies (as attractive as they may seem to you to be) were actually put into effect.
His record as a representative is notable for the fact he has never authored any legislation which has passed. His ideas are dogmatic, unrealistic, delusional, and rightfully rejected by the majority of Americans who can actually think for themselves.
Romney's appeal is that he has the best chance of winning against Obama, but still comes up less than half, meaning it's moot who is voted in as the right-wing candidate. He's most likely going to lose.
Ron Paul! -End the Federal Reserve because it has betrayed our trust in our own dollar. -End the regulations that have stagnated our ability to compete with the established businesses. -End the world policing because the best of us are the ones dying for political wars that compromise our national security. -Seperate the tentacles of state departments eating away at our ability to manage ourselves and our own lives. -Fight for our liberties and bring us back to being the shining example for the world to follow. -Obay the Constitution! Ron Paul 2012! Wake UP!
It's people like you who make me shake my head and not vote for Paul. I don't want to be counted among those who have no damn clue what all that would mean to the United States in the real world where most of us live.
Fantasyland is a fun place to visit, but it doesn't work in the 21st century.
@Fatesrider Paul has stated most of his policies won't be able to be enacted due to our failure representative system that votes based on getting voted in again rather than based on principle and/or what will move the country forward; he actually is a realist regarding what can be changed. You may call his legislation record ineffectual but you leave out the fact that it's because many bills were designed to help people from the government. Just a few: HR 219, 150, 147, 151, 2044, 1102, 1139, 1146
@Fatesrider ... keeping your head buried in the sand is your personal choice. Perhaps leaving fantasyland and travelling abroad away from propaganda and seeing for yourself what actually is going on in the real world might help shake the sand off your head before you wake up without any civil rights left.
Well, considering Ron Paul is the only candidate talking about reducing our spending I don't consider him a joke. Following the current administration's spending plan we hit the same debt to GDP level that Greece is currently at in 8 years or less (you know, that eurozone country currently skirting around default). And the other republican candidates are no better, with none of them putting forward plans that come close to ending the national red ink (and one of them, Santorum, having a history of increasing the national debt level multiple times). So yeh, while I don't agree with some of Paul's message, I'll take someone who is serious over reducing our deficit over a bunch of same-old, same-old candidates any day.
