Obama successfully presented the argument about whether we want democracy to rule or capitalism. If we want democracy we can have capitalism but it has to be regulated and controlled and thus part of our society.

If we want capitalism to rule, then we have to put up with the lack of democratic principles and have the unregulated market create a class of corporate elites who run everything.

And have people like the Wall Street Banksters, Robmee and Gingrinch decide who works, for how much, who will have health care and who will die, who will be educated, and whether we have a real country for the benefit of the 99%.

No one said anything about killing capitalism.
We just want DEMOCRACY in control of capitalism - instead of capitalism in control of DEMOCRACY.

Why should capital gains be taxed at 15% while workers like me pay over 30%. This is an unbelievable scam that needs to end this year forever.

The Top 1% have been gaming the system for a long time. And through their right wing corporate media have dumbed people down so far they actually agree with the system being unfair. I call them self-hating Americans: people who keep voting Republicon to have their corporate masters rob them blind.

Because money used to buy capital assets has already been taxed once. And I REALLY doubt that you pay over 30% in federal income taxes. If you did that would mean that you are a single filer, with no deductions, making in excess of $500,000 a year in wages. I could probably understand that you would be single, but the other two items?????????????

I beg your pardon Dan, but I think that people like Mint RawMoney paying less than half what I do is taking other people's money. You are the very definition of a self hating Republicon.

What Obama fails to point out (and you know he knows it!) is that most of those individuals paying capital gains already paid taxes on the principal of those investments at one time or another at ordinary income rates. Anyone who pays capital gains knows that the investable amount came from SOMEWHERE (maybe even an inheritance that was once subject to estate taxes?). If not from wages, then from another source that was taxed. He is deliberately attempting to drive a wedge between the classes by ignoring that the Romneys, Soroses, and Buffetts of the world paid taxes on the funds making the capital gain. It makes a better point of division and hatred against the Republicans to make it sound like wealthy people are getting a break compared to the middles class. What's sad is that y'all keep buying it.

Well that's fine. Let them exempt the initial investment (principal) but tax the "gains" of the investment just like regular income. It's earned monies, i.e. something the didn't have before.
noloyalisti replies:

That's a LIE. Robmee paid 13.9% on ALL his money. He has NO earned income. Why are we rewarding lazy crooks like the Wall Street Banksters and penalizing WORK?

Our society should not revolve around the giant corporation as it does now. That is a scam that was promulgated on us by Reagan and the corporate elites.

We somehow were brainwashed that THEY should somehow be in charge of employment, health care and American way of life. And it has largely ruined the American Dream. It has enriched the Top 1% at the expense of the 99%.

Well guess what, the 99% can fix this in a jiffy. Time to empower the people through unions and cooperatives and cut out the giant corporations. It's time to empower the job creators, We the People.

Are you truly as clueless as these comments suggest? You choose one element to heap blame on, without any balance whatsoever. Typical liberal spin, and why this president needs to be gone.

Yes, it is called a job.

The reason the GOP is obsolete is they are still extolling the failure of Reaganomics. It is time for us to get over the idea that we need the big American corporation for ANYTHING. They are a dangerous pox on our society. They are not even the job creators, We the People are.

Percentages and dollars are not the same thing. If it were, then we could easily forgive Obama for his small percentage increase in government spending effected over his term. Warren Buffets' secretary figures into the equation as representing the 99%.

The tax laws presumably established to allow "tax breaks" for those financial investments that benefit the greater good. If Warren Buffet's investments yield revenues as a result despite associated risks, and the greater good has benefitted....yes there are exceptions. I know a few. Prosecute them -but please do not make the exceptions responsible for big changes that have far reaching consequences that cannot be understood. I am sure the president understands the tax laws and why they are established and knows what needs to change to benefit the greater good as well as the individual. But, that will not get him elected. American's are not sophisticated enough to get it and here is where Obama will will the american vote.

Great idea. Get the republicans together, give them minimum wage and a shovel and put them to work.
