WOW Cantor. This is already going around my workplace. People who read political news already know you're a d*bag, but did you want to become infamous among the general public for it?

The proposal is allready in. It would not be allowed to trade if the issue was coming to vote..it would be tradable only if it was only in discussion, on whether to bring the disscusion to a vote.

Only in America.

If the GOP was for reform, why didn't a bill like this fly through congress the moment they took power in 1994?

Because both sides are crooked. People really need to vet the candidates before they give them power and not just vote the party line.

As one of the worst members of Congress, this discrace has been all for any obstruction to good government that his owners in big business could think of. To believe he will act to tone down the corruption of the Congressman in unfair, dishonest insider trading would be a huge reach. I think he better show us fiirst, but be ready for a commission to study the problem or other mechanism to delay and obstruct instead.

The bill could have been introduced, debated, and amendments made, and voted on. He is an idiot. He is protecting his cronies, and maybe something he also has taken advantage. Anything he has done since the Republicans took control of the House makes me wonder about his integrity.

'"We wanna make sure that the public understands we abhor that kind of conduct," Cantor told Stahl. "We're gonna build on the STOCK Act and bring forward a measure that actually deals with all of it so we can take care of any suggestion that a member of Congress somehow uses his or her official position to affect their own personal enrichment."

That means expanding the bill so that it bars more than just stock transactions, he said.'

It sounds like Cantor is serious about cleaning up more of the gross corruption in Washington DC. It will be interesting to see who this comes out.

One of the elements of the Gingrich Contract with America in 1994 was to force Congress to abide by the laws they pass for the rest of us. Until then, the US government exempted itself from many laws (like the Affirmative Action Law). Over time, Congress began to write more exemptions for itself (for example, Congress is exempt from the stupid health care law - Congress keeps it's cushy health care coverage while forcing the majority of Americans who are against the idiotic law to have to be under it).

There is no way Congress should ever be exempt from any law that they pass for the rest of the nation (whether it be Affirmative Action, the health care law, or insider stock trading).

Well Holy Moly finally agree with something you wrote Rob, the next good move would be to tie term limits to them . No more than two terms for a senator and six terms for a house member

realist51: I would love to see term limits for Congress. Three 2 year terms for the House and two 6 year terms for the Senate. I guess you can add up another agreement.
