It's simple - THEY ALL (12) FAILED AT THEIR MOST BASIC JOB!

Fine, 538 people will never come to a consensus. But 12 "select" members??? Shows the entire culture down there is rotten to the core. These 12 - BOTH PARTIES - missed the basic point for which they were selected.

How many times did any of you get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc chance to repair something you failed - and weren't docked for it somehow?

last-ditch effort, We will not need that when the Republicans are tossed out of office in 2012. They have kept America on its knees for 3 years not helping and they caused what happened to boot. So 1 more year till they get voted out is a cakewalk and then we can fix what they have done under Bush and the obstruction they have caused under Obama.

I think you got that backward there Joe. Harry Reid is sitting on at least 50 job creation bills passed by the house. He won't even let them be read in the Senate. Democrats have controlled congress for the past 5 years and its almost ruined us. 1/2 of the job was done in taking congress back in 2010. The job will be finished in 2012.

"If no deal is reached, $1.2 trillion is set to be automatically cut from areas like Medicare and national security in 2013 " This statement is WRONG, medicare was not in the deal.

Military will take 1/2 of the hit. USA has over 800 offshore bases, we spend more on military than the rest of the world, Combined! This is where we need to cut and stop this insane attack at every social service we can just to satisfy corporate profits.

That's right. Obama already cut $500 Billion from Medicare.

Don't even bother to 'work' at it.
Unless both sides are going to get real, it's not even worth it.
Though I'd say any cuts need to start with Congressional perks and retirement programs, oh yeah, and maybe some hefty fines for all that insider trading going on, there's a revenue generator for you

We NEED to end this oligarchy / duopoly.

The oligarchy supports the duopoly - and runs everything - into the ground.

Say goodbye to America unless "We the People" stand up, remove money from politics and allow more voices/parties to the party.

It's the system itself that is DESTROYING America and it's own PEOPLE who are to blame for allowing it to happen.

I know it's genetically laced into you people - but try to rise above being pathetic serfs. Wake UP !

All ado about nothing, a trillion or two in the next decade is 1-2%, and nothing happens until after the next general election. A stalemate gives both sides campaign collateral. Even the press gets a story with a lot of hype. When the country defaults on its debt, then you have some meat (and a new federal government, too). The Supreme Court can then make the hard decisions. Watch the rich, who will have 90% of the wealth, take a 40% haircut. Then most U.S. citizens will live in housing owned by foreigners. Sound far fetched? The process has already begun.

You could ask John Boehner too, if he's not too busy handing out checks from lobbyists to his buddies on the House floor.

Can we please fire all of these self-centered windbags now?! Both sides should feel ashamed of themselves for doing nothing more than blaming each other like kids in a school yard! What a bunch of pathetic, egotistical losers!!!!
