Yes the government DOES have business interfering with the private ownership of guns! I have absolutely no problem with gun ownership; I have two myself. Yes there should be background checks and waiting periods for gun buyers! Why on earth does anyone have a probem with this? WHY?! And YES some guns should not be allowed to be bought by any private citizen. What need does anyone have for an automatic weapon?! There's a reason this nation in number one in gun violence and death! 1. Speech - You cannot shout "fire" in a crowded theatre

3. Assembly - many times you must get a permit, that ensures the saftey of attendees
4. Press - Slander is illegal
5. Books/art - last time I looked, you had to be 18 y/o to by a Playboy mag...

Also, if you have committed a voilent crime, or are mental... you should not be allowed to have a gun. How can we monitor this, if we do not know where and to who guns are being sold? There has to be a national database (and we have the technology to do it now).
Finally - as I said, I am all for guns for personal protection and recreational uses, but why would anyone need an oozie? assault rifle? sub/machine gun? That is just crazy!
