Well, white males have screwed up this planet so why not take Capitalism, Democracy, freedom, racism, civil rights, inbreding, financial derivatives, hatred, sex, adultery, another fair and just "Constitution", and a host of environmental catastrophies, to another planet because they've saturated this planet now. Yeah, lets do it all over again...what fun they'll have in a brave new world! If there is a God, the jokes on humanity itself.

The jokes on humanity itself, and you're the punchline.

Why don't you go home to Mars and tell them to expect house guests.

I'll take it. WE RULE ! Now get out of the way you're slowing us down slacker!

Word of caution. Never assume to know the intelligence level of the reader...Unless its a children's book. Otherwise it is you who appears unwise.

Hey people...wake up... Mars, depending on the orbital positions of it and Earth is between 250 and 1000 time further away than the moon. It is crazy to suggest that traveling there is a worthy and achievable goal.

In other words, the moon is about 240,000 miles from earth (something you can comprehend). Mars is between 38,000,000 and 250,000,000 (those are millions) miles away, depending on when. You can't comprehend that! At its closest it would be like traveling around the equator on earth 1500 times! At its furthest, 9,000 times...then coming back.

It's achievable. The distance isn't the issue, it would take less than a year:

The problem is not getting there, the problem is how do you LAND when you get there. Look at the link above, there's a link leading off of this which explains it. The fact is we are many decades away from a Mars landing.

Who said anything about coming back? Give the Republican fringe one-way tickets. Rush can lead the cheers when they land. It will be the sound heard 'round the universe.

I think that you are the racist. Not very intelligent, either.

JFK said we CHOOSE to go to the moon, not because it is EASY but because it is HARD. We accepted the challenge of the Soviets to prove we could do it. Why go to Mars? Why not colonize the moon? We've only walked its surface, we have not conquered it. If we can colonize the moon, then, maybe there is a reason to visit Mars. Or beyond. Until then we are simply out of our element, at the mercy of forces beyond our control and "tourists" rather than "settlers."

I believe the exact wording was, 'Would you be in favor of sending Cheney and Rumsfeld to Mars? If so would they wear spacesuits and how long would they stay in -160 degree F weather before retreating back to the spacecraft?'.

You have to really WANT to solve a problem before doing anything about it. There are still billions to be made in the oil game- right or wrong they will play it out.

How about if we put these talented scientists and engineers to work solving our energy issues rather than spending billions of dollars to put a man on Mars. That's like buying a new boat when you can't even afford to buy new shoes for your kids.
