What if she had been elected Vice President? Would she be quitting that job now as these "troubles" would have followed her? Do you honestly trust this woman to follow through on any promise? I am 55, female, and have worked hard my whole life-I don't have much, but I am willing to share what I have with those less fortunate because I honestly thought that is the Christian thing to do. I don't think anybody wants big government but I believe it is a necessary evil. And for people that don't want government controlling their lives, Republicans sure want to tell others how to live.

Sometime in the not so distant future (soon I hope) the Republican Party is going to have to realize that....just as you can't negotiate with terrorists,....you can't treat liberals decently...because they will never...yeah NEVER reciprocate. Simply stated, the republicans need to recognize that they must RETURN the kind of treatment they receive. Yeah, that includes the focused and organized....attack on democratic leaders....insults at every turn, about every action....and, the coordinated investigation of all aspects of democratic leaders lives...and, when that fails....lie....

Are you actually that dense, whosaid1?

Do you actually believe that Republicans haven't done the same kind of divisive treatment to Democrats?

One example -- among many, but relavent to this conversation:

Do you consider saying an opponent is "palling around with terrorists" (please take special note of the word "pal" and the current tense of the word) is something other than an attack or at best, an insult to that man's character?

Do you actually think there hasn't been coordinated investigations into Democrat's personal lives?

If you do, then you flat out don't pay attention to facts, current and historical!

I agree, my parents both of them are lifelong Republicans, (I'm a Democrat) and both raised me to believe in the importance of party loyalty, both voted for Bush both times, even though they didn't like him - but both voted for Obama this time around. Neither had anything against McCain, but they both felt there was far too much risk McCain would die in office leaving Palin in charge. And Palin was the straw that broke the camel's back for them.

I actually think that McCain's selection of Palin is the beginning of the end for the Republican party. There was just too much going on this time around for the rank-and-file Republicans to swallow. By the end of his term most rank-and-file Republicans hated him, and most regarded the economic collapse as a fundamental failure of the party-of-business to mind the store. Everyone of them knows perfectly well that all of those bankers getting public bailout money was a white-collar Republican. Then along came Palin who's selection pretty much said "your either with me or against me, and I'm a theocrat" The selection pretty much told all moderate Republicans that there wasn't any more place for them in the GOP and a lot of the moderate Republicans responded by voting for Obama.

Once a voter breaks party loyalty, it's a lot easier to break it a second time around. If the Republicans spent the next 4 years reaching out to the moderate Republicans they might have something going into the next election. But if they put Palin in the primaries then she will kick Romney's behind, and if she is nominated to go against Obama, the moderate Republicans will vote for him again, and by the time 2016 runs around, they will be gone forever from the Republican party.

Politicians put themselves into the media spotlight, how else could they get their "message" out in order to gain supporters.

With this comes an open door to have people who just plain don't like them and those who actively deride them. (Take a look a few posts up... ya' think that birth certificate garbage isn't derision?).

If Mrs. Palin wants to stay out of the media, I'd advise her to do her job, tend to her family and stop calling press conferences as well as just say "no" to interviews.

Plus -- your screed is totally off base in the respect that "right wing" commentators have had as much to say about Mrs. Palin's floundering and failings as those on the "left".

Let's see, Republicans at 25% approval rating, 7 out of 10 Republicans would vote for Bailin' Palin, that gives her a whopping 14% of the electorate.

Freddy... the approval rating is something different than the number of registered voters.
Still, your numbers aren't far off track.... at the last national election, Republican registrations went DOWN significantly and Democrat registrations went up.
By most informed estimates, Republicans account for about 35-40% of currently registered voters, so we'll say 38%.

So with 7 in 10 saying it's "somewhat likely" they could vote for her... that's roughly 26% of voters.
This falls in line with current statistics that roughly 20% of the electorate support the political ideology and values, etc. Mrs. Palin embodies.

No matter how you crunch the numbers... she would have to grow her base considerably in order to even get past the Republican primary, the actual election (with the regional and electoral college component) would be as elusive to her as a unicorn on the tundra.

These are facts. Today's facts for sure... I won't attempt to predict the future, but I am comfortable that it won't change radically. America isn't really a reactionary country and people don't follow this stuff all that much -- for everyone of us posting here, there are likely at least 30,000 people who don't currently give a hoot.

Especially if Ron Paul also enters the race.... but as a matter of fact, that would be true with ANY Republican candidate.

He pulls from the right/conservative-reactionary mindset more than from the left/liberal-progressive one. Though I do know folks that aren't as enamored with Obama and some of what he has done or not done (so far... I know, it's early in the administration) that they could jump to Mr. Paul, if he chose to run.

Fact -- I'd guess the majority of Americans have gotten to a point where they vote for the candidate, not the party. So, we'll see....
