In one of the e-mails, Sanford calls their relationship a "hopelessly impossible situation of love."

I'd call it a "hopelessly impossible situation of being a RAGING HYPOCRITE!

Bravo to the newspaper for not publishing what in December amounted to a private matter. It only became the public's business when it became clear that this chump was bilking state funds and trust to finance his liaisons.

This hippocrite voted to impeach Clinton "on moral grounds" as well!

Sure is a bore watching so many RapePublicCons dropping their -- I mean, like flies these days. We were hoping for at least SOME entertaining competition in 2012. . . .

Hahahahaha! Holy cow! This is funny stuff. So much for Sanford's faux sanctimony and BS piety. Hypocrites. Is that 2 GOP holy rollers crashing and burning in 1 week? Hahahahaha!

Boo Hooo - What's he crying about? He didn't lose his job.

These guys are truly skum of skum.

If this had happened to a blue-collar worker in the private
sector he would have been FIRED by management in a heartbeat.

If the man had any REAL morals he would resign.

But then again he is a politician, and a repug family
values one at that.

Well, his emails have a sense of poetry to them--by far better than Prince Charles writing camilla and telling her he wished he was a pair of her panties--then Camilla laughs and says--"What you really mean is that you wish you were one of my tampons" Class act, that.

Not true. Some men cheat no matter what. It is a fallacy that a man is being deprived at home. Some men just want to fill every hole in the universe, some feel their age creeping up on them and want validation that they are still desireable to younger women, some want more excitement or variety. The reasons are as diverse as the number of women--but stop blaming the wives or the hubbies. When a person cheats, the problem is within themselves and the lack of respect is evident--they have no self respect and they have no respect for their vows or their marriage or their families. THAT is the main thing cheating demonstrates--and such a person should never be allowed to remain in office to contaminate that position with their lack of commitment and lying/cheating predilections.

Well take a good look. This is just another example of the downfall of American morals. There is no way we can undo the damage caused by the moral decay in this country. Most boys that grow up without a stable father figure develop a sense of "I turned out OK and I didn't have my dad, so my kids will be OK without me." This has become the norm and it continues to evolve with each new generation.

Deb, that's a complete non sequitur.

This guy had a "stable father" and yet he is a slimeball. This situation has more to do with the fact that republicans are hypocrites than it has to with the "downfall of American morals". Republicans preach "family values", but they don't live by what most people would consider to be "family values". This guy is just a typical repuke slime.

We've been voting the repukes OUT of office for some time now. If anything, America is finally demonstrating a RISE in morality, not a downfall! As the morals of the country continue to rise, more and more of the slime will be discovered and "run out on the rails".

Fred you're an idiot.

It has nothing to do with being a repub or demo. Men are men and it is in their jeans (pun intended) to try to mix DNA with as many women as possible.

Deb, this has been going on since the beginning of time. Even if you don't consider the Bible as fact and consider it a good history book just read it and you will see polygamy throughout the old testament. There is nothing about any type of global/American moral decay going on here. This has been occurring for thousands of years.

I think that CBS is WRONG for sharing the text messages Gov. Sanford wrote. Although I don't agree w/ him having an affair. These texts were private thoughts he had. I don't agree with this I think it is aweful!! journalism. And should be against the law at LEAST invasion of privacy! What has our news come to?

I agree with 70Honey. It is just totally wrong for news media to publish these private emails. It is a totally unwarranted invasion of privacy!
by dwright1now June 25, 2009 1:17 AM EDT
Hey. It is taxpayers who paid for those e-mails and as a Governor that is his job 24/7. Privacy my behind. Cheating when you are a public official is a dumb as its comes for you will always get caught.
by docpeter1953 June 25, 2009 7:41 AM EDT
Heck I say share some more, I need a few new good ideas and pointers so I can have a fling, my old ones aren't working like they use to, or maybe at 55 I am just getting too old to pick-up and 18-year-old.
by nanc12 June 24, 2009 8:25 PM EDT
And how does the newspaper have the emails? Was he stupid enough to send them on his official email, that they would have access to? And since they had them since December, guess the neocons can't say how the liberals have control of the MSM. Oh, this really is a gift that keeps on giving!

And the CIRCUS continues! GEEZ! ANOTHER Repub cheating on his wife?!

At this rate, they won't have any nationally-known politicians to run in 2012! Except Palin, and the majority won't vote for the wacko from Wasilla!

I can't say I feel sorry for the guy! The citizens of South Carolina have
suffered under this reign! He refused to take monies to improve the school system there! Like most Republicans, he doesn't care if the next generation is educated and prepared to have meaningful lives or not!

SO! He's hiking in the Appalachians, huh? More like the Andes!

He should have moved his mistress to S. Carolina or neutral ground in Florida! It would make it easier to cheat on his wife, then!

I feel sorry for his kids and I'd leave them out of it! But, not the wife, she's an adult, and she has a ROLE in all this, too! A man generally doesn't go looking for it elsewhere, if he's getting satisfactory attention at home!

the woman might be hermaphroditic but I rather think he is speaking of her, as the French say, melons. Sex has become quite advanced in America since the hippies invented free love and women learned to kick the missionary out of the bedroom.
