- McCain is correct. Our president is actually cowering in his so-called measured comments because he's afraid to stand for right. The protests in Iran and what is occurring is a human rights issue. At the very least, the U.S. should make a formal protest at the U.N. Never mind the cowards who are afraid that the big bad Iran will blame us. Blame us for what? It's not exactly the first time something like this has occurred. Perhaps, once again, oil is the determining factor. The president is showing his weakness to the world. Maybe he needs new writers to provide him with the words. What the Iranian protesters want is democracy and how they achieve it is one thing, but when it clearly involves attacks and repression, that is when civilized nations stand behind a cause and voice it. Known for his rhetoric, this time the president has been abysmal. This isn't a Democrat versus Republican situation, and any individual that has convinced themselves that it is, is nothing more than a naive lemming and nincompoop.

- Oh and YOU are a voice for a non-partisan stance???
Our president is "cowering in his so-called measured comments..... maybe he needs new writers to provide him with the words..."? You obviously hold to a very narrow pre-packaged mind set. One that is simply, tired and wrong.
Sorry, your bias is rhetorically and ideologically clear and your assertion that those who don't agree with you are "naive lemmings and nincompoops" is a weak, poorly crafted attempt at insult.

"The facts are as follows: If we interfere in this particular event, we will cause more harm than good. Almost everyone on this planet hates America. That was caused by Bush Cheney and the epublican party.
If we make comments favorable to the protestors we will make it that much easier for the Ayatolla to condemn them as American pawns.
republicans making stupid knee jerk pronouncements will do EXACTLY what Akmadinajad wants. But since republicans are stunningly stupid, they are immune to reason."
John, I believe the "stupid" Republicans are actually more "clever-stupid" than simply stupid. That's a whole lot worse. I believe the maniac wing of the GOP actually want George Ahmadinejad to prevail; for him and/or his Islamofascist handlers to crush the "velvet" revolution in the harshest terms possible and for the Iranian leadership to rachet up their pointless anti-West sabre rattling. I further suspect (though can not prove - this is just opinion) that certain elements in the Republican's extreme wing are covertly aiding Ahmed-the-Hothed in his Uranium enrichment program hoping he will be silly enough order a bomb or two and drop one on his favorite Mideast point of abuse.
The reason I think this is these neo-con troglodytes are heavily invested in worldwide chaos and human misery. Folks like these (Richard Cheney is a prime example) are perfectly positioned to make a TON of money from "combating" unrest and conflict. The more conflict to combat, the better, and the human suffering consequent is a gold mine of opportunities to rachet up our own defense spending and funnel more cash into various private black holes. If the election stands and peace returns to Iran, we lose our strawman; we lose our advocacy for destructive miliitary intervention and the war profiteers lose their lolly.
You are right, however, about Mousavi's American sympathies. Slim and none. He was, in fact, one of big players in the Hostage Crisis. An expectation that Iran will suddenly become luvvy duvvy with the West in general or the good ol' USA in particular - no matter who is installed - is just a pipe dream. - Reply to this comment

- Mr. McCain continues to amaze me! REALLY! I'm constantly left wondering what stupid utterance(s) he'll speak next!
For his information, the U.S. lost it's ability to be on the "right side of history" decades go when it sponsored and placed in power 'right-wing thugs' in Iran, who subsequently were overthrown by the people!
The result of that, is the animosity that exists between the two nations today!
As having experienced a national election whose results were "bogus" (2000), the disgust and anger of the Iranian peoples is easy to relate to!
As far as McCain's statement that it's 'not what happens on the street'
that's important---I BEG TO DIFFER! He can tell that to the parents of the girl that was shot and killed yesterday! I'm willing to bet they will disagree with him, too!
Concerning the overturning of elections and citizen's rights, Mr. McCain must plead "quilty" on that issue, too! As a backer of the Patroit Act and similar laws, he has nullified the civil and basic rights of ALL American citizens! He and Ayatollah Khamenei are MORE ALIKE, than they are different! - Reply to this comment
- The best thing we can do is mind our own business...........take a look at what Republican thinking has done to the world & especially this country over the past 30 years............we don't want the rest of the world to solve our problems(which are many)......let them solve there own problems.........without our Republicans screwing them up even more.

- McCain is yet another tired, old yesterday's news politician still living in 1950.

- If McCain KNEW how to be on the Right Side of History, he would be President. Nuff said.

- Iran's opposition is not asking us to ratchet up our rhetoric. The dictatorial regime of Iran would love for Obama to interfere so that they can blame this all on the U.S. We had 8 years of stupid Republican policies toward Iran that just made things worse. No matter who wins this conflict in Iran, the U.S. will have to deal with them. Obama's taking the right aproach.

- If I was POTUS... I would be showing the same restraint as the guy who actually holds that job today -- my representative in our representative government.... as well as the rep of the majority.
Politics dictates that the minority also has a voice. In this case -- that voice should stop attempting to gain ground in their districts and upcoming primary seasons and take a moment to think about the entire country and perhaps, for a moment -- the world we share.
If America is to maintain the [moral] leadership Senator McCain speaks of, we need to show a unified face to the world. Our respect for the sovereignty of the Iranians and support for the PEOPLE in their struggle to have their collective voice heard, speaks louder than any condemnation of any kind!
Like all good fathers, we must lead by example.

- Repubs say that Obama is M.I.A. over the latest Police & Militant Brutality on the Innocent Iranian Protesters.
I beg to differ with them on that. If you look closely you'll find that BO & Our SOS are standing behind the Bashing of the Multitude of Innocent Iranian Protesters and every once in a while they pop up their heads to make a statement for the Press to remind the Clerics, the Police & the Militant Terriorists of Iran that the Rest of the World is Watching.
In the meantime - I'm with the Libs on this one - Time to get on with more important things, like celebrating Fathers Day with a beer & steak on the grille. Happy Father's Day! - Reply to this comment
