davideconnollyjr said: "No one wants to live in a country that is suspicious of its own citizens, like China, and North Korea."

That choice has already been made: by rightwing extremists themselves. When they go out and buy AK-47s and other extreme arms, and talk opening about the 'end-times', and when some of them have already 'popped-off' and killed Tiller and now this Holocaust thing, well, frankly, WE ALREADY DO LIVE IN A COUNTRY THAT IS SUSPICIOUS OF ITS OWN CITIZENS. And for the very good reason that many in rightwing America are NUTS!!! And armed to the TEETH. It doesn't require government statements and approval. When rightwing America repeatedly takes the path of violence, THAT IS GOING TO BE THE CONCLUSION, because THAT'S THE TRUTH.

I think rightwing America is certifiably insane. And they are armed with everything including bazooka's. This country is heading toward some 'killing fields', and rightwing America will be the one's pulling the triggers, when that happens.

CBS, do you often draw these tormented, terrorized souls to your thread? I'm not a liberal, but I don't sit around fantasizing that they are all out to kill me. I think that you should do everything you can to discourage this line of thinking. I don't care if it is a Conservative or a Liberal. These people are dangerous and to give them a platform is extremely dangerous.

We are being besieged in this country by a torrent of ultra-right-wing religious fanatics who are every bit as deranged and dangerous as their Islamic Fundamentalist nutcake counterparts. It is now time for our government to protect the people in this country from these religious nutcake fanatics. The fact that they are ultra-right-wing religious (so-called 'Christian') fanatics does NOT make them benign or less dangerous than the virulent Islamic brand. They are demented homicidal religious extremists which society desperately needs protection from. Our government needs to ramp up its homeland security to completely include protections from these religious nutjobs. An they are using the NRA to provide them with arms to facilitate their terrorist plots.

I don't know who is deadlier, Conservatives or ultra-right wing religious fanatics. Maybe it is neither group. Maybe it is a Ultra Right Wing Religious Fanatic/Conservative. Every time I pass a Church on Sunday morning, those Christians come racing out with their guns and try to shoot me. I don't know how they get their sermon in because a lot of people drive past Churches especially on Sunday morning, night and Wednesday go to meeting. My cousin lives by a Christian Church and tells me that they can't sleep all night because those fanatics are out on the shooting range (in back of the Church) target practicing. What's a person supposed to do?

Someone is a wee bit paranoid and delusional. Perhaps they should see a psychiatrist before they hurt someone.
I am very serious.

So, will this now lead to ANOTHER "witch-hunt" - this time as a "turnabout is fair-play" on selected groups that fairly or not, enjoyed a much higher "status" during the Bush years?

Does it mean that the heat will be turned down on groups that were "social targets" by those in power prior to the recent political changeover ?

- OR will it lead to FURTHER EROSION of Constitutional rights as that once prized "tree of liberty" gets axed from a different direction.

Looks like that tree trunk has been whittled down to pencil thin already.
Which way will it fall when it tips over?

Fascism or Communism?

Anarchy or dictatorship?

"big government or feudalism?

Does it matter really?

The sad part is that there are so many fearful, ill-educated, gullible, illogical and divided people (on all sides of the political spectrum) willing to give up their freedoms and happiness for "protection" from hyped up bogeymen.

I seriously doubt that Napalitano had in mind that more than 0.01% of the right wing extremists would turn to violence. But those are similar to the percentages than turn to terrorism in Muslim countries. Do you similarly downplay that? Perhaps we should just stop worrying about terrorism? Is that your point? And the past says that keeping an eye on right wing extremists is a good idea...ask Tim McVeigh. Former Army veteran and right wing terrorist, who managed to kill 168 people. It's not a reflection on conservatism, but there is certainly a greater tendency toward violence on that side's fringes, at least since the Black Panther/Weathermen groups disbanded, though groups like ELF and ALF certainly have the potential to injure with their activities.

Do you folks have any idea how insulting it is to equate an 80-some year old neo-nazi to conservatives? Talk about a broad brush. Whew, people, get a grip.

'Right wing extremists', genius, right wing extremists. The Nazi party and the neo nazis were and are the ultimate right wing extremists. Sorry that hurts your feelings, but if you don't want to be included in that group move toward the center. Unfortunately those who call themselves 'conservatives' today are the radical right. There is no more 'conservative' party.

We might want to add the guy in Pennsylvania who killed the two cops because he thought Obama was going to take away his guns.

What the guidance from Napolitano said was that people that appose abortion, veterans, and people that want the illegal immigration problem solved were to be put on a watch list as potential terrorists. This memo was disseminated to all law enforcement around the country. Napolitano did not say anything about an immediate danger from neo Nazis, so this article, and its title are completely misleading. It ends up the man involved with this is mentally ill, and his age, and the deterioration of his faculties was likely the trigger for this event. America does not need the equivalent of the KGB, and we don't want it. The FBI is well suited to handle domestic terrorism, and it is redundant, and a big waste of money to have all of these overlapping jurisdictions. Big government waste is what Obama said he wanted to do away with. No one wants to live in a country that is suspicious of its own citizens, like China, and North Korea.

"The Republican hysteria over the DHS report -- which was, by the way, initiated by a Bush administration official -- was always based more on a partisan scheme than reality, but the incessant complaints look especially misguided today," he wrote.

Yep- the American Taliban has come, and it is RIGHT WING EXTREMISM egged on by the RUMP GOP and their far right enablers. These nutjobs are whipped into a frenzy by their Far Right Media demagogues, and believe that anything they do (illegal or not) to "save America" is A-OK. Of course, in order to "save America" - to turn it into their Far Right fantasy land- they must kill a lot of people. But hey- if it is good enough for Islamic Extremists to kill for their cause, then why not for the AMERICAN TALIBAN too?

What are you talking about? These killigs and the "Far Right fantasy land" are entirely in your head. Is it that you are medicated or is it because you are not medicated? It kinda looks like you want us to go out and kill someone. But frankly I am too old and too tired. You may want to run down to Gitmo and get yourself a real terrorist to start killing. Anyway you are pretty pathetic, go get some rest.

Three over publicized incidents out of how many hundreds of murders of all types each month doesn't make Napolitano right no matter how you liberal pundits and anti-conservative groups spin it.

This has to be the dumbest article I have read on CBS !

It reminds of the rage-radio topics to provoke callers to call in and complain.

I guess you succeeded !

I must have missed something. Were the shootings at the Kansas site and the Holocaust Museum perpetrated by "returning veterans"? Apparently Brunn was a veteran of some sort but at 88 years old, I doubt he was returning from active duty. Roeder was just some sort of wacko murderer.

The blogger is once again showing that liberals are hysterical, biased and no better than their counter parts on the other side. This article is the work of an idiot. He should reread his own work and see how inconsistent he sounds.

Liberals have to have someone to hate. Who else can they blame when they make mistakes?
by June 10, 2009 6:23 PM EDT
The killing of that so called doctor was not right wing extremism, is out and out murder. I don't feel one bit sorry for putting that socialist Janet Napolitano feet to the fire! She would give this country to illegal Mexicans.

I like Mexicans, and respect their culture, but this is America, not Mexico. Unless they are here legally they must leave, no matter what. Obama will not be President more than eight years, and the democrats will lose their hold on this country, and we will undo most of this fu fu ? good feeling ? unaffordable ? illegal act of extremist left wing bigots.

Oh, please. How many of the SLA bombers of the 1960s were evangelical Christians? The shooter was a convicted felon, a member of a national socialist fringe party, and everyone who knew him was afraid he was going to do something like this. These do NOT fit the profile of 99.99% of the right in this country.

Note also that had he chosen a church, synagogue, or school in DC to rampage through he most likely would have killed many innocent people. Not every place allows or can afford armed security guards to protect against monsters like this.
