- If things are too slow, maybe Obama should go for a recess appointment. After all, republicans should like it: Bush's favorite method.

- LEAHY has enriched himself and his family of thieves in VERMONT with this sort of 'rushedIDJITdemocracy'!!! The DEMBHOLES have the votes to confirm SOTOMAYOR - what's the big rush??? Does 'the OBAMA' need another FOOD TASTER to taste tacos???

- Rush her through the process of becoming aS.C. Judge is all a matter of hiding her negatives and getting her in before they reach some enterprising newspaper person who wants to be famous. Starngely she has a background like Obama's. Local college person suddenly is in prestegious school and a superstar among the minority elite. How many times does that happen exactly like reported??? Statistically this really doesn't play.

- I have always wondered how and why people like to justifying their bad behavior by pointing out someone else bad behaviour. I don't care what side does bad behaviour, it is still bad behaviour.
It was wrong the way Congress treated the republican nominees for the court. I have yet to see congress do the same to democrat nominees, they need not do it now.
Yes, ask question, find out if she is qualified in your mind. Then if you feel she is qualified, vote YES. If not vote NO. Congress does not need to destroy lives on either side of the political spectrum.

- Obama has bankrupted us in less than 5 months and they blame Bush.
Sotomayor is a racist, Obama is a racist, they both hate white men.
That's why they want to rush her through. - Reply to this comment
- And these are the same people who wouldn't allow Congress the time to read a multi-billion dollar rescue bill and remove the billions of dollars in wastefull spending. Unbelievable! No wonder our country is quickly flushing down the drain of history.

- The republicans want to prevent Obama from accomplishing what is needed for America. If Obama succeeds the Repubs are proven wrong. They would America become a banana republic with them in control than for America to live up to its full potential. They would be happy for the majority of the people to live in plywood huts and walk to work as long as the rich could live in splendor.
Why should they do anything to help Obama? He would stop them from allowing the insurance companies to bleed the people to death. Obama would put people on the SCOTUS who might actually have the experience that one needs for the job. Republicans make me sick. Not enough time? Time is all we have. - Reply to this comment
- Jefferson isn't rolling over in his grave any more, he has rolled so much in the last 80 years that there isn't much left of him. Now he is drowning his soul with tears from the distruction of his dream world where the PEOPLE own the government instead of the government owning the people. Both sides are guilty and it started with FDR and now it looks like BHO is sealing our fate as servants of the government.
Actually, if you think about it, it is amazing we've lasted as long as we have as the closest thing to a democracy ever invented. Many of the forefathers thought the people would give up their inalienable rights by bankrupting the nation giving themselves freebies taken from others. Taking GM and giving it to the unions is the best example yet of the creeping crud of socialism. The unions have already bankrupted once and I guess they will do it again.
If the lefties get control of the Supremes the deal will be sealed and only a new revolution can stop it. Surely, the middle roaders must see that one side having their way is a recipe for disaster.
Poor Tom, I feel for you buddy, but your dream will stay alive for many of us if we have to start a new country all over again. - Reply to this comment
- The lady is a typical Leftist that believe the Constitution is a living, breathing document subject to what ever interpretation those in power say it means. She states that it is the job of the judiciary to set policy.
She is no more qualified than Hugo Chavez.
Jefferson, whom liberals claim as one of them, is rolling over in his grave.
?The opinion which gives to the judges the right to decided what laws are constitutional and what not, not only for themselves, in their own sphere of action, but for the Legislature and Executive also in their spheres, would make the judiciary a despotic branch.? Ltr 09-11-1804 to Abigail Adams
?One single objective?[will merit] the endless gratitude of the society: that of restraining the judges from usurping legislation.? Ltr 10-18-1825 to Edward Livingston
?At the establishment of our constitutions, the judiciary bodies were supposed to be the most helpless and harmless members of the government. Experience, however, soon showed in what way they were to become the most dangerous; that the insufficiency of the means provided for their removal gave them a freehold and irresponsibility in office; that their decisions, seeming to concern individual suitors only, pass silent and unheeded by the pubic at large; that these decisions, nevertheless, become law by precedent, sapping, by little and little, the foundations of the constitution, and working its change by construction, before any one has perceived that that invisible and helpless worm has been busily employed in consuming its substance.? Ltr 10-31-23 Monsieur A, Coray
?The judiciary of the United States is the subtle corps of sappers and miners constantly working under ground to undermine the foundations of our confederated fabric. They are construing our constitution from a co-ordination of a general and special government to a general and supreme one alone. This will lay all things at their feet, and they are too well versed in English law to forget the maxim, ?boni judicis est ampliare jurisdictionem.?? Ltr 12-25-1820 Thomas Ritchie
[The Constitution has become] ?a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary which they may twist and shape into any form they please.?
?On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, conform to the probable one on which it was passed.? Ltr June 12, 1823 to William Johnson, The Complete Jefferson, p.322. - Reply to this comment
- Hey, the $878 Bln stimulus package passed without anyone reading it...why should this be any different?
Lets get her in so she can be empathetic towards any Dem issues that may need "fast track" passing....
They "won" right? - Reply to this comment
- Hey, FOLKS! Republican Congressmen have given prior interviews to the press stating they wanted to delay and obstruct her hearing for political reasons!
So, now they offer a bunch of phony reasons in order to justify what they said they were going to do anyway---and for why!
For eight years they destroyed America, and now that they can't do that anymore, all they can do is whine, complain,
say 'NO', and play politics with everything! What a bunch
of irrelevant L*O*S*E*R*S! - Reply to this comment
- Everything has to be a RUSH with the Communist Obamunists, simply because if any deliberation is done on ANY point of his legislation or appointments, it would reveal the fact that he is running down the path to tyranny as FAST as possible, and we simply CANNNOT afford that!! Now can we???!!! Sotomayor is a Communist/Activist the same as the "Messiah" and must be STOPPED at all cost!!

- Hurry. We must rush her in before there is any chance to carefully review her decisions and let the Republicans build momentum against her. What if they "Bork" her by questioning her too closely? Or embarrass her with a long drawn out public spectacle of a hearing like we did with Clarence Thomas? We can't have that ,can we? Only we are allowed to do that because we know what's best. We're liberals and it's about time we had a Supreme Court reinterpret the entire Constitution. Enough with the "Founding Fathers" and "Bill of Rights". It's time we had some real change like they have in Europe or Venezuela ! Let's push this through as fast we can. At night would be best. ...... .The press will cover for us.......... They always do.

- The Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed Tuesday that Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation hearing will begin July 13, and Republicans are none too happy about it.

Too bad. If the Republicans aren't crying and whining, then they are totally silent. They are the most negative bunch of cry babies I have ever seen. Steele must spend most of his time changing their diapers, poor guy. - Reply to this comment
- One of the main complaints against Obama is that things are being rushed and YES, the stimulus bill that noone read is a good example.
Why rush this when it is the most important thing (other than declaring war) that the Senate is charged with doing by the Constitution. Just for respect of the Senator's Office it should be delayed for a reasonable time if only one request for delay is asked. I can't think one one other thing more importaint to the health and wealth of our nation since the SCOTUS is the last place that the commoner has to protect its rights. When Roosevelt controlled the House and Senate it took the Supremes to stop some of the illegal acts that were railroaded through. - Reply to this comment
- Par for the course --- the OhBummer Gang does everything in a crisis rush ---- to prevent close examination of evidence and close reasoning of arguments and testimony ---- in short, the quick parliamentary rubber stamp of a third-world despotism ---- a dictatorship.
In this case, it's the Sotomayor Stampede. In the case of the man-made global-warming swindle, it's the Gaseous Al Gore Stampede, and in the case of hijacking the American healthcare industry, it's the Single-Payer Stampede.
At the international level, it's the nonstop USA Apology Tour, wherein this smooth-lying sob struts around apologizing to people whom I would shove in front of a bus if I could.
This is Barack Hushpuppy OhBummer, "The Mistake of '08." Throw his gang from the train in 2010 and hog-tie him until 2012 ---- and throw him from the train, as well. - Reply to this comment
- Dug! It is obvious that they don't want the American people to learn too much about their nominee because they may turn against her. In fact, this administration(the most transparent ever) seems to want to hurry everything - no time to read the stimulous plan, hurry on health care before people realize how terrible it will be for the country. Do everything fast before the truth can come out.

- smoshlak - there may not be a vacancy on the bench, but there is a new "SC season" that starts in October to consider. In fact, that October issue was key (along with Rehnquist's death, of course) to Roberts getting nominated and confirmed in a mere 3 weeks.
A more relevant comparison would be Alito, who was confirmed in 8 and a half weeks after nomination, even though he was replacing O'Connor mid-season. Sotomayor's process will be 7+ weeks between nomination and the start of confirmation hearings...certainly not so rushed as some are suggesting. - Reply to this comment
- And the Republicans dig a deeper hole. She was announced as the nominee 3 weeks ago, they've had ample time to look over her record, and to call her a racist, only to take it back.
The party of no needs to stop throwing tantrums, and come up with something of substance, before they're completely irrelevent. - Reply to this comment
