Dan, around the time those quotes were made, blood letting and witch burning seemed like a good idea too.

Are you saying the Bill Of Rights is outdated?
How seriously ignorant can you get?

Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

"The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age..."
-Title 10, Section 311 of the U.S. Code

"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials."
George Mason

"To disarm the people is the best and most effective way to enslave them."
George Mason

"The peaceable part of mankind will be continually overrun by the vile and abandoned, while they neglect the means of self defense."
- Thomas Paine

"The Constitution shall never be construed... to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."
- Samuel Adams

"The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."
- Alexander Hamilton

"Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun."
- Patrick Henry

"No Free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
- President Thomas Jefferson

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed -- unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
- James Madison

?Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American.?

you can have a gun, if you are in the militia (National Guard or military branch or the police force). I don't like that either, but as it IS in the Constitution, I can live with that. Crazies like you have no need or more correctly should not be given access to weapons of any kind.

That's very typical that you would resort to using insults.
I collect and even make weapons of all kinds and have been for many years and I'm proud of it. My collection is even in some books and my weapons have been collected by museums. The Supreme Court has already ruled that gun ownership is an individual right(See Heller) and that fact is backed up by many quotes from America's founders. And by the way, the National Guard didn't even exist when the Bill Of Rights was written so try again.

Tell that to the two violent criminals who I last saw hugging the pavement in that parking lot after trying to carjack me and my friend.

Okay, I'm assuming that YOU were the one making them 'hug the pavement' with your gun and that they also had guns. How do you know that your political activities made it easier for them to access those guns? Perhaps if there were very strict laws in place regarding the purchase and sale of guns, they wouldn't have been able to get them. I also don't like the idea of ordinary citizens claiming rights that are only given by Constitutional law to police and militias. Guns are for them, not vigilantes.

So why do the police and the military need guns if we are so "civilized"? Take away their guns first along with the guns from violent criminals and I just MIGHT give mine up.
But until then I will be keeping mine. I am well aware that what I do on the internet is being monitored and I couldn't care less. I took an oath to support and defend our constitutional rights and I take that oath very seriously. The best way to protect the constitution is to USE IT!

You're scared of the COPS and the MILITARY!?!?!? You've really got issues then and just need to go see a therapist for fear issues.

If you took an oath to support and defend the Constitution, the do that, don't twist it. The Constitution only says that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" ergo, you can have a gun, if you are in the militia (National Guard or military branch or the police force). I don't like that either, but as it IS in the Constitution, I can live with that. Crazies like you have no need or more correctly should not be given access to weapons of any kind.

You are in fact encouraging more people to be criminals.

I believe that if we are a civilized society (as we claim to be) that we should not need guns... for ANY reason....And if you are so terrified of the government that you need a gun... why are you even on the grid by posting to an unprotected internet chat board?

If you or anyone else broke into my house and attempted to steal my property, yes, there will be serious problems.
Posted by gunownerdan at 7:55 AM : May 21, 2009

Again, you are afraid of the criminal. I'm not going to break into your home. That is illegal. I'm going to work through the proper channels to get it. Eventually, Americans will realize that they don't need them. Protection really is only a facade of a defense that does not exist. The 'protection' that you talk about is like trying to kill a gnat with a mortar or a tank. It is a serious overkill. I fail to see the wisdom in arming everyone to keep criminals from doing something. They are going to do it anyways, and all you are doing is enabling more crime because access to guns is easier. You are in fact encouraging more people to be criminals.

Thanks. However, I would like to point out, that what I said was closest to Himmler, not Hitler. "Ordinary citizens don't need guns." It really doesn't matter to me that you can quote famous Nazis so well and know them by heart, it is not going to change my mind because you will also notice that they are talking about conquering and subjugation. I am speaking of neither. I believe that if we are a civilized society (as we claim to be) that we should not need guns... for ANY reason. I am also NOT advocating that any particular group of people be shot if they do not surrender their weapons.

And if you are so terrified of the government that you need a gun... why are you even on the grid by posting to an unprotected internet chat board?
