- he only really health hazard is High Fructose Corn Syrup which is found in many drinks and food products. HFCS causes obesity, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
The irony is the Democratic Congress passed the farm bill a year ago which gave large government subidies to corn growers and makers of High Fructose Corn Syrup.
The hypocrisy is they want to tax a harmful product which they are paying farmers to grow and chemists to make it into HFCS. If the FDA was doing its job it would not go after Cheerios for making a healthy food but shut down the poison product called High Fructose Corn Syrup. Oh, never mind, that's in Iowa and Illinois.

- ...more fat taxes to pay for these continued bail outs of Warren Buffet @Goldman Sucks.
Taxes and Austerity...get used to it folks, you're too dumb to question the very crooks @Goldman Sucks, JP Morgan and others to know why it's happening to you.
THIS IS HOW YOU PAY FOR BAILOUTS!

- The republicans never raise taxes they just put a fee on everything, and the thing they can't put a fee on they just let it tinkle down to the local levels in the form of unfunded mandates.

- Comments like these against Obama's taxes are fine but, they really don't matter. It is all too late. Democrats have the freedom to tax everything without opposition and, they will. All of these new taxes are just the beginning. Now, on to the energy taxes that will make life unbearable for the middle class whom Obama vowed to protect. The socialist goal: total government domination through complete control. Let's just hope we can endure this onslaught of taxes and control until election time.

- Finally, a good idea from Congress. Now couple it with a French Fry and Fatty Burger tax. They're just as deadly as cigarettes and alcohol.

- Here we go again - the government trying to regulate your behavior.
And so what if soda has no nutritional value - neither does water.
And neither does tea or coffee, so I guess they will be taxed next - how fitting since it was tea that was an issue in the last American revolution. - Reply to this comment
- A three-cent tax on sodas as well as other sugary drinks, including energy and sports drinks like Gatorade. Diet sodas would be exempt. "
And you can't say you didn't see THIS coming, and this is just the beginning, it all started with the "health tax" on CIGARETTES that so many supported because they were against smoking, NOW that that is in place, chocolate, candy, "junk food" soda and more will be in the crosshairs. The goal is not health but getting more MONEY.
Diet soda is just as much KRAP as the other stuff, its carbonated sugar water, or carbonated chemical water. - Reply to this comment
- If Montana can present this argument with guns manufactured and sold within its state, why can't other states say the same about this Federal Soda tax?

The tobacco companies tried that one, didn't work so well for them. When the government puts its collective mind to something like this, they will do WHATEVER they have to do to get it done. Look how they demonized tobacco. They can and will do the same with this issue if they decide it is worth enough.

Not the same - almost all tobacco has to shipped across state lines. What I'd like to see is Coke/Pepsi grow a backbone do something about this. Let's all remember - all Government employees WORK FOR US! We do not work for them! The time is getting closer to draw the line in the dirt and take a stand - revolt is coming and its not going to be peaceful... - Reply to this comment
